Hey guys , ive had My 1997 240sx for alittle over a month now. I've replaced the Head Gasket and its still having some problems. After It heats up It will start to miss and sputter and pretty much no power. I've been told that the MAFs go out pretty often on the KA. Here are the codes that I read.
Stored Codes:
PO340
Faulty cam position sensor.
PO100
MAF.
PO115
Engine coolant temp sensor/thermostate
PO505
IACV.
PO325
Knock sensor.
PO110
Intake air temp sensor.
PO335
Crankshaft position sensor.
P1455
Fuel/Evap/EGR
Pending:
PO325
PO110
What's Your opinion on this?

-fuel pressure
-timing
-ignition(spark plug and wires)

I am going to guess your ignition timing is off.

The weird thing is, when I have the two bolts that hold the distributor to the Block alittle loose, it's runs better. When I tighten them, it's acts up instantly.
Should I set it a tooth forward or just use a timing light? Or just replace it in general?

Did you have any of those codes before you did the head gasket?

I didn't check, I'm pretty sure though. MIL was on and the previous owner said it had lots of DTC's.

I agree with Lucky

So I bought a timing light to check the Timing and found out That the Distributor stops sending Spark to the #1 Cylinder and that's why it's Running how it is. Took the Cap off and the Points still look pretty Good. Made sure it wasn't the Wires by switching two of them.
Correct Me if I'm wrong in this assumption, I should only need to replace the Cap since only one Cylinder is affected right? If it was the Rotor, ext... It would affect all of them?

I bought a New Distributor and Still is Happening. No Spark To Cylinder 1 on occasion. It's better but still has the Problem. But it is also much cooler out so the Engine may not be Getting to the Same Temps. I'm trying to run the fuel out of it because it has a lot of fuel cleaner and I'm pretty sure some of it is a Year old. Would that cause it? The last owner put 87 in it and now I put some 91 in it with the Cleaner. So there may be old 87 in there. I know the KA Runs at a High timing and that's why 91 is Required. Any thoughts?

Ran out of old Gas, Put 91 in and no Difference.

Check timing again.
Check for codes again.
Did you get a whole new distributor or just the cap?
Troubleshoot and avoid just throwing new parts at the problem.

Checked Timing, spot on. Checked codes and have a P0100 P0325 P0110 P0335.
I got a distributor with a new Cap and it all had 20k Miles on it. Also cleaned the connections to the Distributor with no avail.

Then start fixing all those codes my brother! These are old cars and regardless of how well taken care of when something goes wrong, usually is not just one thing that gives. I would have tried to get a cap and rotor, before a new distributor, I would never co sider used parts for those unless I was in a bind. Tackle all those codes and report back.

Start with the basics, check things first before buying stuff.

-Download the FSM if you have not already, you can use that start the diag process.

-I'm assuming you changed head gasket due to over heating? (If so, I would have changed the thermostat)
-Check your spark plugs, are they fouled up?
-Spark plug wires all in the correct order?
-Try cleaning your MAF sensor, its easy to do and fairly inexpensive.

yep...lots of issues to potentially check...

proper spark plugs?
Proper gap?
Firing order is verified to be correct?

As stated above...start with the basics and work your way up. :)

Forgot to mention that I fixed it. It was the Dissy. At first it had a few issues but it all worked out. Thanks for all the answers!
