View Full Version : Rb20det revs fine, all the way up to the limiter, but when in gear, it will stall
It will drive fine for about 5 seconds, (enough to get out of the drive way) then it stalls.. Any ideas? This was a rb20det I swapped into an s13.. It builds boost and all while sittig in neutral, or with the clutch in.. But as soon as torque is applied, it stalls.

I'd check your fuel filter. Similar thing happened to a car my Dad had years ago. Revved in idle fine, but wouldn't go over 60km/h, and would jerk and buck if you tried.
If not, check out the rest of the fuel supply.
Fuel is good, I put the pump in a bucket of a gasoline and it's doing a full loop fine. Dropping straight back into the tank.
If it revs fine in neutral, why would you even try to rev it in gear with the clutch pressed in? Just trying to figure out your reasoning to see if we should even proceed...
Torque = load
The ecu computes timing, injector pulse, injector pulse length etc. depending on the load.
Ecu uses the following sensors to determine load:
-MAF
-TPS
-oxygen sensor
-coolant temp sensor(maybe not)
-knock sensor(maybe not)
- x-sensor where x is any other sensor I missed
Now, what do you think happens when one of those sensors is not functioning correctly?
Why does it matter if I revved it with the clutched pressed it? I'm just explaining how without a load, it acts normal.. MAF and TPS are good, not sure how to check o2 or knock or coolant. No codes on ecu.
update: ok opened up the breather that we originally had blocked off.. car now runs fine with people in, but after it heats up it begins to blow smoke and lag extremely bad. starting to think it's a blown head gasket. here's a video
