Currently (as many of you know), the NHTSA requires 25 years to pass before you can import any car not originally sold in the US.

Here's a petition to change that:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/repeal-dotepa-%E2%80%9C25-year-rule%E2%80%9D-car-import-ban-15-years-and-allow-importation-non-conforming-cars-and/PhZ4RMgz

It needs 100K signatures by September 5th, 2014.

Sign it and share with everyone you know.

Looking to get this spread on a bunch of forums, hopefully we get it through in time.

Thanks guys!

I agree with you, but just a thought I guess. Figured why not try to help it rather than not ya know?

If everyone who started one of these petitions had just signed the first one, they would've met their goal lol.

I'd only sign it if it was no smog for 25 yrs old or older cars. F' RHD cars..useless to me here in the States.

Highly unlikely this will ever happen. Safety and the environment and whatever other reason lobbyist are likely to cite kill things like this.

Here's the deal. Reaching the signiture goal on these petitions only assures that the White House will "look" at it. There is not promise that they'll do it. And trust me, they won't. Earlier this year, the WH recieved a petition with sufficient signitures asking the US Govt to build a Death Star & another one to deport Justin Beiber. How do you think those went?

I signed the one to deport Beiber. I had high hopes for that one, sad face :(

The ironic thing is that the newer the car, the safer and more environmentally friendly it will be. :)

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but there is a petition going on to make the import law wait go to 15 years instead of the 25 year wait that us U.S. car enthusiasts hate any ways take a look at link and share with other people.
Thanks

As much as I would love this to pass, and yes I've already signed, I don't see any reason beneficial to the gov. for it to actually be passed.

Call me crazy but isn't there already a petition for the same exact thing on the off topic section?

it would "create jobs" and help "small businesses".

How is this not beneficial to the government? They would be getting their cut on Registration fees and whatever road tax and smog in the state you live in for letting us drive cars that we actually want. More cars on the road more money for them. :2f2f:
