Hey guys hows it going ? I dropped my cams off to be installed the other day, and this morning I received a call from my mechanic saying the exhaust cam snapped in while attempting to install apparently they snapped when he barely started torquing them or something. these are brand new and yes he is a professional not some bobo shop, the question here is if this is a common issue with tomei poncams and how is tomei"s customer service. I just drop 500$ getting these and had to wait for them to come from japan this sucks...

thanks in advance
That's what happens on a long cam like what you find in an I6 when you don't do the install correctly. Your mechanic F'd up - end of story.

Do you know If he followed the instructions tomei supplied you with?
Tomei states that if you try and install the cams the same order as the factory ones, you risk the chance of snapping them!
I installed mine two weeks ago, but they where for an SR20, install was straight forward.
Took me a few hours though...lol

Honestly it was you're mechanic that screwed up the installation, causing the cam to snap.
He probably doesn't know how to install aftermarket cam.
I'm sorry this happened to you, hope you resolve you problem some how.

I've actually had this happen to me before on my RB25, both with a stock cam and a Tomei PonCam hahah. Even when torquing them down in the proper order, you have to do it in a sequence similar to the way you'd do head studs. Tighten the bolt until you feel some tension then stop and move on to the next bolt, then restarting in the same correct order until all the cam caps are seated fully. Don't torque each bolt down all the way in the first shot, this causes the cam to 'bend' quite a bit (especially on long I6 cams) and you will snap them.

Tough luck, brah...I had the same thing happen to me at a shop in SW Dade a few years ago when I gave them my stock RB25 head to refurbish. They snapped the OEM exhaust cam and refused to compensate me for it! Needless to say, that's the LAST time I let ANY shop touch my car and I used the opportunity to upgrade to Poncams. I was super careful installing them and with a lot of patience, got them installed safely.

There are MANY posts on other websites about snapped RB25 cams.
When I installed mine I followed this procedure:

It's not hard, just takes a few more minutes and patience.
I used a torque wrench and went up in 20-25inlb increments tightening in order until I reached the final torque value.
