Hi guys

I trying to figure out whats wrong with my exhaust.

Its melted my bumper but I have bought a new one but I dont want THAT to melt too..

I have a ebay cannon exhaust and Im trying to see why its melting the bumper.

Is it because its too high? or too short? I think its too high but Ill let you guys be the judge.

If it IS too high, what are my solutions other than welding new hangers? I want to maybe put one rubber through another with a bolt and screw so it sits lower. Then again Im afraid itll shake too much. + its already so low! any more lower and it with scrape of EVERYTHING lol

First pic is my car, the others are just S13s with cannon exhausts.

its your ebay exhaust hangers. With that bolt idea id be worried about messing up turbo gaskets if your sred of you pushed it to much.,

This exact thing happened to me but on a different exhaust. I just got a carbon heat shield for the bumper

I ended up getting adjustable hangers like these afterwards

This is a fairly common issue. I'd start shopping for a rear bumper heat shield. Hopefully, you can find one that fits onto your new rear bumper.

At first glance it looked as if that was a really tall and skinny building in the background.

metal heat shield... 15 mins of fab work = no more bumper burn

Never heard of anyone with an S13 have issues with an exhaust sitting too high. If anything, it is never high enough.

put a longer tip on it or weld a section of pipe in before the muffler and move the hangers

coupe rear ends are roughly 4" longer than hatch rear ends... damn near 95% of the exhausts on the market are made specifically for the hatch rear bumper. outside of extending your exhaust out to make it sit better on the bumper, the rear metal bumper cover is your best bet.

Thanks for all the advice.

I really don't want a heat shield. I might take my car to the exhaust shop and see what they say about it but I'm more keen on getting those adjustable hangers.

Yeah they are the same...

actually theyre not, ever tried mounting coupe rear valances to a hatchback or vice versa? but hey, ive only owned both cars and know for a fact that exhausts sit differently in accordance to the rear bumpers on the coupe vs the hatch.

This is why I custom make my own exhausts, rather than worrying about "one size fits all" stuff.

oh florida.
Because you know everything of my fabrication skills. You know cause I don't fabricate parts every single day at work. No, you're right. "Oh Florida".

What I learned from this thread:

Zilvia highly recommends bumper heat shields.
