View Full Version : Crank pulley without power steering section?

Hey guys, I have an S14A SR20DET in a swap with the power steering deleted. The only problem is that the pulley section on the crankshaft pulley for the power steering is incredibly close to part of the frame and steering rack. Is there a pulley that eliminates that 3rd row, or some way I can safely remove it?

I don't think a pulley missing the PAS drive will appear,
everything with the SR20 has PAS afaik
just get it machined off at an engineer's easiest way imo

Thanks, I've been doing some research and was considering that, but it appears that the pulley also has to do with the harmonic balancer, so I might have to look into getting a different pulley and having that one lathed down.

A little hard to see, but this is what I am looking for, specifically. I can't tell if they machined off the extra section or if that is a pulley that is made like that. From the looks of it, it looks to me like one that is made like that, as I don't really see any obvious signs of machining.

Hard to tell if that's a stock pulley machined down or not tbh
it certainly breaks chunks off like the OE pulley likes to ;)
I just had a look at my mine and the PAS drive is part of the center hub
so machining it off won't affect the harmonic balance effect
cheapest option I'm thinking
An after market harmonic pulley will cost $$'s and most likely still have PAS drive

assuming det is same as de? possibly the PAS drive unbolts? still not cheap tho

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid going that route (the ATI performance). I've seen them being mentioned, though no real confirmation on the de vs det and the PAS unbolting.

I wish I could find a blown up version of the crank pulley / harmonic balancer assembly to really see where it is. From the looks of that picture, it really seems to corroborate your statement that it's part of the center hub, which, if so, makes me feel much better with the idea of having it machined off. I just have to find a reputable machine shop around me now, lol.

Also, with that pulley in the picture, one thing that caught my eye was the 3 circles on the outer lip. Not sure if that is stock or the result of balancing after removal of the PAS drive.

It's probably a FWD SR20DE pulley off a G20. Those only have 2 belts for all of the accessories instead of 3 like the S-chassis.

Here's the belt routing of a 2001 Infiniti G20, you can see there's only 2 belts with the Alt and Power steering flipped but in the same general location as RWD parts.

LoSt180, do you by chance know the compatibility of that particular pulley with the DET? I'm looking but not really finding much information.

Many things are interchangeable. Can't say for certain other than that looks like a stock pulley on that image you posted and FWD SRs only had two belts. Should be pretty cheap from a pick-n-pull junkyard for you to test fit.

Yep, I agree, I just gotta find the time to go out and grab one, lol. There are 3 at the junk yard close to me, so I just have to hope that one of the 3 has one

EDIT: http://www.g20.net/forum/showthread.php?97984-SR20DE-Crank-Pulley-vs-SR20DET-Crank-Pulley Seems to imply they are the same, so fingers crossed that they in fact are

The FWD and RWD pulleys are not directly interchangeable.
You could get an aluminum crank pulley and have the front rings machined off, but I would not trust an aluminum crank pulley.

I had this Ross Metal Jacket balancer. It was pricey, but they are guaranteed for life. The Race version only features the alternator/water pump belt ring.

I still need the AC ring, however. The chassis for my swap has power steering provided via an electric power steering, so I don't need the belt driven power steering. The downside, however, is that the power steering rack is literally a few millimeters away from that pulley.
