ya its a manual. drove it home from the seller's house and it died like 5 times. the problem with the car when i bought it was that the owner replaced the spark plug wires with non-oem wires and they didn't fit properly and there was a gap right where the wires come out of the valve cover. water got in and rusted out the spark plugs and it ran horribly. i pulled the sparkplugs out and they were super rusted.

i replaced the spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, added some r-134a. now she purrrrs like a baby. now i need to smog it since i bought the car as a non-op.

hmm...i wonder what my first mod should be?

engine has 187k so it shall be the first thing to go once i save enough for a blacktop. i have no idea where to get the motor. venus-auto since its local?

this car will be a sleeper so no silvia conversion unless i find a super deal.

Just what a 500 dollar car needs, a $800-1000 cosmetic upgrade that'll leave the car multi-colored and ugly.

Get a clay bar, polish, and some Goof Off to get the black stripe off.
Used coilovers.
Decent wheels.

well she failed smog today. didnt pass the 15mph test cause she is runnin lean. bought a new cat and it didnt help. the smog guy said its typical for higher milage nissans to do that.

If it's running lean it'll run hotter... I belive. Which increases NOx levels. I think. I can't remember. I'm pretty sure I'm right. :P

Make sure that replacement catalytic converter is a 3-way and not a 2-way. That will help matters.

Make sure the EGR is functioning properly and that the o2 sensor is good. If not replace.

Also check base timing and make sure it is set to FSM spec (15 degrees IIRC).

I know, all basic stupid shit but it helps.

Does it have the stock airbox? How's the filter? Try replacing it.

Also try running a mix of 91/100 if you can.. it will help.. assuming all of the above is good as well.

yes nox levels were too high. im not sure what kind of cat it was but ill ask my dad tomorrow since he had it installed. egr works fine, the egr modulator was acting whacky but it was because a hose rotted away so i replaced it. my dad even hooked up a vacuum gun thingy to test the egr. timing is right. my dad said the air filter has nothing to do with nox levels but ill get a new one anyways. hmmm...where do you get 100 octane?
