I'll start by saying that i'm not sure if this thread will take off, or crash and burn. Either way, I feel like we need a thread to gather up the coolest s-chassis on zilvia. A place where all s-chassis can be posted, zenki, kouki, chuki, silvia, onevia, sileighty, type-x, everyone! I know the word cool is subjective and everyone's tastes are different, but for the most part I think the majority of us can decide whats cool and belongs in this thread, and what isn't and does not.

A few rules:
1. cars must be owned by a zilvia member.
2. cars must be a s-chassis (s13,s14,s15)
3. cars must be complete (no mismatched panels, unpainted body kits, etc)
4. cars cannot be posted by the owner

This isn't a thread to bicker about whats cool and whats not, unless someone posts an abomination. Hopefully mods can help out if this happens. Past cars that have since been destroyed or parted out are okay. Posting different pics of confirmed 'cool' cars is encouraged. I hope this works haha, here are a few cars that I think are cool in no particular order. I'm not including several cars definitely worthy of this thread on purpose, this is just to get us started.

Is there some mechanical grip reasoning that makes you feel this way? Or an aesthetic one? Because my preferences are:

S13 Coupe/Vert: 17's
S13 Hatch: 17/18 stagger
S14: 18's

Personally, I don't think any S14 on the planet makes 17's look as good as 95Ka-Turbo does.

^^^Yep. Seen that car a million times. It's very nice. It's one of the few that come close, but 17's still look too small for S14 wheel arches, IMO. Without bodywork like 95Ka-Turbo's to get even lower & reduce the size of the arches, Just looks like S14's swallow 17's to me. Especially if you have aggressive aero. Just personal preference though.

its a simple concept of understanding the reason behind the wheel size

wheel size is dictated by two things:
1) size of tire needed for sufficient traction
2) rotor/caliper clearance

with #1, you need to research what width tire sizes are available in that diameter and see if they're sufficient in clearing the body

with #2, you need to fit the maximum size brake you can fit (to a reasonable limit) that will be sufficient for the power output and car's use

so for you bullshitters with Z32 brakes, its pretty obvious that a 16" is totally sufficient

i went with r33 gtr brakes, and therefor 17" is needed.

i can only imagine a car like the ben sopra s13 needing 18" (or larger) in order to fit a serious brake system.

in the end, there is no benefit to running a 18" wheel when you can run up to 275 (or possibly larger) in 17" diameters.. you gain nothing.

every time i see people running big diameter wheels they ALWAYS cheap out on the compound tire. if you're going to show off your wheels, you might as well show off your tires..... especially when thats responsible for your acceleration, handling and braking.

Well when we make a thread saying "coolest" I think of a show quality car not dented to shit cracked bumpers etc. Unfortunately this thread is for the cars that like to be hardparked mostly or constantly getting work done on them and i don't blame them for that. Its there style to keep it clean.

I dont think a half decent paint job, a kit, and wheels makes the car the "coolest", anyone can do it. Its the way they execute it that matters. Did they take the time to to paint something no one else will see:door jams under hood trunk, or how the kit lines up. Is the suspension high quality. What mods were done under the hood, is interior amazing.......

I wasnt trying to come off talking shit by my comment. Sorry if i offended anyone saying their car looks like shit, maybe i should have just said they still need work to be a top notch example, so therefore do not belong in here.

i'll bet that i could easily beat that heap in an autocross, canyon run, track, anything... in my wife's car. i guarantee that car cannot take full throttle for more than 5-10 minutes without something breaking or falling off.

Sileighty is hard to pull off successfully. In the end, the front end simply does not flow with the rear. The only way to make a Sileighty look respectable is the combination of bricks + GTR grille + aero bumper.

Eh, ill disagree with you... Its all in the wheels that are run with the, and believe it or not, color has a ton to do with the overall look as well. Im planning on going from my ssr mesh to advan SA3Rs or advan super racing 2s eventually as the 3 spoke is what makes a sileighty look so awesome. though for some odd reason in the US, sileightys are so hated on, but in japan its one of of the most respected conversions you can do (or at least it use to be)

Sileighty's are hated on because they are done incorrectly, very often. Judging by your plans you are going to follow suit.

I really could care less what people think of them and how to "pull them off properly" as your post summed up to. The sileighty has been and always will be my favorite s13 out there and just like my last onevia coupe, my sileighty will be just as clean when its finished ;)

Onevia - S13 Silvia with a 180sx front end conversion (pop-ups).
Sileighty - 180sx with a S13 Silvia front end conversion.

i just dont like calling these cars by their american names... sil40 is a dumb, and to be blunt, an s13 with an sr20 is damn near same thing as their japanese counterparts for the most part (sans certain interior cloths and factory options that japan offered). its easier to refer to a 240 hatch as a 180, a coupe with the correct face as an s13 silvia and any variations thereafter by their JDM names.

ive been in the s-chassis scene since 2002, dont forget im an old schooler as well... i just refuse to use the american terms because theyre LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!

It will be painted. I just recently got it and have just basically thrown it on to see what's up.

I'm dealing with some motor issues that have taken my priority at the moment. I went to dyno the car and my valves weren't seating so now my head is apart at the machine shop and my shit's just torn apart (plan to update my build thread again).

I'm painting the car either a black pearl or metalic silver...I can't decided. I love my black car though, just the paint needs some love.

That car would be amazing if it had a coupe rear.

That's my buddy Mike's, he does all my metal fab work, that's actually not even the cool one, his other one he cut apart out an e30 rear subframe in it and made custom front subframe, miata steering rack, all custom suspension arms, wilwood pedals and brakes, reinforced the chassis, full cage, custom turbo back exhaust, bridge ported 13B with a dual ball bearing precision 6262, Haltech engine management, just needs paint and a tune and some minor finishing touches, here's a sneak peak pic
