Question about a govner

Hey guys new to the forum so I'm not quite sure if I'm placing this question in the right spot. What I'm wondering is on my 89 240 when I end out at a high rpm shift sometimes it kills the power, and I have to shift out an into a higj er gear. This is not a all the time thing it only really happened when I had to really get on my first two gears shifting onto a very busy Baltimore highway. Is this the govner kicking in or something I would possibly need to upgrade. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Not quite sure this is the first car or five speed u ever owned all trucks before. Is that something that is needed to be fixed or more of a safety item on the car. This thing runs amazing and has only 92k original miles. But previous owner added a 3 inch exhaust and delegated the cat and has a cai all from what I've read are very high end name brand companies like Freddy and injen but didn't know if these upgrades were hurting more then helping.

Try to not take offence, but you should probably sell the car and do A LOT of reading.
