I've been thinking a lot about making my setup more responsive lately and realized the 240sx community doesn't have a good spot to collect spool data and compare responsiveness of setups like the Miataturbo.net spool thread for example. So let's get on it!
Here's how we'll do it. In third gear, compression brake down to 2500rpm and then floor it. Measure the time it takes to get to 0,5,10,15 and 20psi along with what RPM each is achieved at. Then post it here along with as much relevant info about your setup that you know. Here's a format for everyone to follow

Note: For those without datalogging capabilities, record your tach and boost gauge with a GoPro or similar device and then measure times in the video going frame by frame in a video editing program. Feel free to post your videos and/or datalogs also.
PLEASE TRY AND STICK TO THE COMPRESSION BRAKE TO 2500 AND FLOOR IT METHOD OUTLINED IN THIS POST. IF NOT, PLEASE SPECIFY IN YOUR POST THAT IT WAS MEASURED DIFFERENTLY.

Full boost RPM recorded from datalogs. I've always felt my full boost PRM is lower than what others have posted, but looking at the gauges while driving can provide inaccurate numbers, the datalogs don't lie.

Thanks for sharing. 15 PSI at 4200 RPM seems about right for a .64 2871. Do you happen to have the time it took in your datalogs also? Most people just compare RPM but I feel that's not a good comparison. If car A and B both make 15 PSI at 4000 RPM but A gets there in 1 second and car B gets there in 2 seconds, then car A is faster.
Time is really the most important/accurate measure of response.

Been wanting someone to post more about the GTX2867R .64... seems like it really doesn't spool any faster than 2871r... just a tad more hp throughout boost.
Would be nice if there were something bolt-on that spools like a disco but doesn't run out of breath past 6-7k rpm and can handle 400whp with appropriate mods.

Yeah, it's basically just a more efficient 2871. Not gonna spool any faster but it will have more area under the curve.
As for your 400whp disco, they have it and it's called the EFR 6758/7163.
I just bought the 7163 last week, but it's gonna take a month for Full-Race to make the manifold (I went twinscroll but you can make it work on the stock mani). I plan on posting some datalogs from my 2871 in the next few days and then comparing it to my 7163 when I get it.

I have one of each (2867 and 2871, with .64 a/r).
The GTX gets going a lot quicker though I haven't timed it or whatever yet, and full spool on the dyno was at 3800rpm. The 2871 is probably hitting 14psi at 4200 if not maybe a touch later. GTX car has came, GT car is stock. Both z32 mafs, 740s, etc.
Will have to take video to test this later.

I mean, the compressor wheel is a bit smaller and lighter, so I would expect a little difference but nothing huge.
I was just going off of what I remember CodyAce saying. IIRC he spooled about the same but felt like there was just more power everywhere. He went from a 2871 to a 2867 and changed nothing else, so that's the most accurate comparison. The cams on your GTX car could be improving things by a few hundred RPM. I look forward to your videos anyway.
The 2876 is definitely better, just probably not worth it for those that have a 2871 already.

Cody and I have talked frequently about it. On a dyno the 2867 doesn't seem worth it. In the real world it's lots better. I'm replacing the 2871 with a gtx2863 next weekend and I'm guessing that thing will be awesome.

Yeah, more data is always a good thing. I thought it would be nice to have one common thread to pool together data about engine/turbo setups; more specifically, the spool of the turbo. Actually, I think maybe I'll just turn this into a generic data thread since it isn't far off from that already and include stuff like 1/4 mile, 0-60, 60-100, etc. Thoughts?
Is everyone actually testing by the method listed in the first post tho? The whole point of this is that everyone is testing the same way. If you're just posting your max boost rpm as you recall it from a dyno run or street pull a while ago, please specify that. Even better, take 5 minutes the next time you're on an open road and do a pull the way it's outlined in the original post.
I chose the compression brake and then floor it method since that simulates coming out of a corner on a race track. Well, you won't be flooring it on a race track corner exit but if we have everyone floor it, it's less variable than asking people to give it 50% throttle and slowly work to full.
And Corbic, think you could take the spaces out of your post? The posts are already lengthy, let's not make them longer and stretch out the thread. Thanks.
Tech talk...
Really? I didn't think this was a technical subject. I saw it more as people chatting about and comparing their setups.
