Daily driver? Think about gas mileage. Think about gas mileage, minimal cost of repair if necessary and gost of said fuel. Get a TDI Vee-Dub

depends on who is going to be driving it the most, (as in if your gf bugs you and actually will use it more than yourself)
but if it was for me, i would consider and test drive:
rsx
wrx
accord
mazda 3, 6
mini cooper
altima
legacy
golf/gti
all can be had brand new under 25k before tax, title, reg, blah blah blah

Hmm, I really dont like VW's. My dad had a 1.8T Jetta and I don't really like how it feels.
Perhaps an Accord V6 w/ all the goodies? WRX sounds nice too, but I'd probably start dumping money into it. Lol..Blizzaks, sway bars, you know..Rally stuff.

Blaaaah. Don't buy a VW. Good gas mileage from a GTI VR6? Whaaa?
If you want a new car that wouldn't tempt you to throw a lot of money in it, there's a lot of choices. Omitting all the hot subcompacts... hmm. well-equipped Volvo S40, Mazda 6s, Nissan Altima SE V6, that's what I'd consider.
But, I know I have enough self-restraint not to mod my daily car, so I'd probably actually get a WRX, or a Mini Cooper S, or an SRT-4.

Civic , Scion, integra, accord, Golf TDI, any hybrid, Echo, corrola, mazda 6, mazda 626, mazda miata, altima (used). That's all i can think of off the top of my head.

COMPLETELY AGREED! I'd also say test drive the Sentra SE-R Spec V. Also SRT-4 is quick, cheap, looks cool, has a super duper warrenty and gets pretty decent gas mileage. Also has the usefullness of a decent sized trunk, and 4 doors.
Mazdaspeed protege? Not quite as quick,but handles like a DREAM!!! Miata? B14 SE-R (sr20de stock :rawk: ) and gets good MPG + cheap ? B15 SE2.0 (also SR20) ? NX2000?
I wouldn't get a civic unless it had a B16 or K20 personally and its still a CIVIC:doh:. I love the way Integras look though? RSX is a pretty nice car right out the box?
For that much money you could get one hell of an S14/,or get a decent one and fix it up a little(or save the money:))? My 4 speed auto KA24DE gets 30-35mpg with intake/exhaust on it.
N/A Supra? Celica? Scion TCs are really nice too.
Civic Hybrid! WOOT! Thats what I would get for a travel/commute car. If I got anything else, it would actually be a car I would like and end up wasteing money on it by modding it. So the Civic Hybrid is perfect.
Other then that... get a Impreza, anything 98+ great daily car.

bah BAH, shame on you all. Toyota Mr-s, or Miata. Also, BMW 1 series is coming sometime soon and i bet it will be super sweet.

TDI for MPG.
Mazdaspeed Protege just cause I like Protege's anyways.
Mazda 3's/6's are nice too.
Nissan Altima cause it's a Nissan :p
Subaru Impreza cause is AWD, good ABS for snow/mud/anything with less than ideal traction.
Subaru WRX if you were willing to have a nicer daily driver than project car........
There are so many cars I like, I guess I'm just a car fanatic. Everycar has something to bring to the table, it just depends on what you want/need.

wait...are we talking about a daily driver that will remain bone stock and solely be used for Point A to Point B transport, or are we talking about a ride that can be modified and be fun while being mostly streetable?

When your family owns 2 mechanic shops and a smog shop you come to understand the difference in build quality between certain cars. Time and time again they come in with stupid issues. Whenever i see one pull in to my shop it makes me sick (seriously i get nervous). If looks matter I personally cant even tell the difference between a new bug, old bug, vanagon, gti, golf etc. they all look the same to me all years and models. Also after talking to Audi mehanics(Audi's are glorified VW's) they say DONT buy an Audi or VW. The only 2 cars i would NEVER EVER EVER own are 1-VW and 2-Cadillac (except escalade) I hate VW's with a passion and the only one i would consider owning would be a late 80's early 90's 16 valve GTI. So next time you see a VW on the street, flip the owner off and let the driver know that he/she is an idiot.

i HATE VW's. a friend of mine has a 1.8T so i was like "cool he can supe it up no prob cause its turbocharged... intake, exhaust, boost controller turbo timer" *buzzer* wrong. he told me all this crap he said he had to swap out to make sure it runs properly. freaking stupid.
if you can get your hands on a mazdaspeed protege they're freakin sweet too.
im tellin ya though you can get a GOOD C5 vette for under 25K easily and they are very comfy as well as fast as well as being sexy as all get out...
did i mention i love vettes?:)

my dads a vette freak he just bought ANOTHER vette. i swear. why in the hell do you need 4 vettes. and the c5 is by far the best. its not like the old ones. nice and smooth. took a 3 hour road trip and it was the funnest one because the thing was so comfortable. not to mention how much power the thing has. i test drove a mazdaspeed protege and i must say i was impressed,.

I thought he was looking for "daily driver" ideas... Modded integra type Rs, C5 Vettes, WRX, Mazdaspeed anything, SRT-4, what the hell are you people thinking? DAILY DRIVER means practical and good gas mileage comparative to the car(s) one already owns. The kid asked for daily driver ideas, not "what would you buy with an open ticket for $25k?"

Lol, i think its funny that people are suggesting a corvette as a daily driver. I'd like something that will get me to and from work and that I can still have fun in. I like the look of the 2005 Legacy Turbo..but the one I want is around $30,000. I dont want an SRT-4 because its ugly, a Dodge and a neon (yes, i know..its a terrible combo.) I'd like to have something AWD, but I'm not sure where I'll be living after college next year. If its not anywhere that sees snow..AWD wouldnt be that much fun. All I know is that I have a lot of cars to test drive :wavey:

seems like we hit the nail on the head. corvettes are some of the most comfy sports cars on the market and still out perform ferraris on a daily basis. i've known plenty viper owners that have corvettes as daily drivers for that exact reason.
to find it funny only shows that you really don't fully understand the C5.
240KAT
07-04-2004, 03:30 PM
I understand the C5 plenty, ive driven a few and seen more than enough. They're great, comfy, cars. But a daily driver to me is something that can be fun, something with some sort of back seat, and something i wont be worried about if it gets dirty. If I was going to go the C5 route, I'd rather get an M3. I dont want to have to pay $40 for oil to do an oil change.
And unlike your viper buddies, i dont have $100,000 to spend on cars..I drive a nissan. :D

well you suggested fun and comfy which the C5 is.
why downgrade for your other car? i have a 99 ranger that i love for completely different reasons than the fastback. i also plan on buying a coupe some day and an F150... daily drivers come in all forms and there are plenty of used vettes for 20K (especially since the C6 is going ot drive the previous gen's prices way down).

any hybrid. i think you can ride in the carpool by yourself only. I think. (can't upgrade too much stuff)

don't supras get insane-o awesome gas mileage?
or are those dyno-queen ricer wet dream cars still like 30K for a USED one?
240KAT
07-05-2004, 05:52 PM
still very expensive..but again, not for a daily driver. Two seaters (except MR2) arent good for daily driving. If i bought a nice supra, i wouldnt want to put thousands of miles on it every month just driving around to the store and whatnot. Same thing with the corvette.

what the hell do you mean by daily driveR? i know tons of people that have vettes as dailydrivers.
by daily driver do you mean something that isn't fast and cool? fine, get a civic. i just don't see why one has to downgrade when making decisions of this nature. i plan on having a 12 second daily driven track ready 240.
my point is that since our ideas of what makes a daily driver vary just saying "no that's not good enough" or "that's too good" is freaking retarded because that in no way helps us give you ideas that may be better suited for your objective.
honestly, a vette is the best daily driver with the most fun factor you could possibly have and the fact that they are comfortable and sexy as all get out makes my opinion a very valid one.
if you want 5 thousand cubic feet of cargo space get a freaking excursion for all i care. jesus christ dude... i hate it when people do this.
I second the vette but it's silly to have a daily driver that's better than your weekend car.
How bout a Ford Lightning Pickup Truck?
