limited slip

Hi, my name is Rory and this is my second post. I don't have a 240 yet but plan to get one when I have the money. I was wondering if anyone knows wether the 240 came with a factory installed limited slip differential? If not are there any aftermarket ones available? Thanks!

I don't know which models came with it or not.  The s13 didn't come with it, or didn't in most cases, but may have installed aftermarket LSD's and others have found used ones a wreckers or other sources.  I'm planning on installing one once I pay off my student loan.

to check a car.....jack up the whole rear end so its off the ground and SECURE it with jackstands, out of gear, e/brake off spin one wheel while looking at the other side.
if the OTHER wheel rotates in the OPPOSITE direction u have an open differential (standard)
if the other wheel rotates in the SAME direction u have  
a limited slip diff (LSD)

yes s13's and s14's came equipped with a viscous limited slip diff...but only certain models have them...I'm not 100% sure on the s13's but I think only the s13's with the HICAS had the lsd's...the s14's however are the se's with abs generally had the lsd's..but like the man said the quick way to check is jeck the car up..if the rear wheels spin the same direction it has the lsd

Yes, yes to the last two.  More specifically, s14 SE and LE w/ ABS are the only way you can get LSD on s14.  Good luck - I hunted for a while and couldn't find one!  Also, from what I've heard, if you look at the diff, there will be an orange sticker that says VLSD (or something).

I thought all '91-'94s came with HICAS. I'm sure someone mentioned this already (I'm lazy and don't wanna read) but only certain models came equipped with LSD. They MOST OFTEN were accompanied by an ABS system. LE had it standard, and LE came only in hatchback. (for '91 at least). I'm not sure if there were some SEs with it.

I've never seen another 240 on the road that has HICAS... of course, since my paint job I no longer have the stripe around the car that said Super HICAS, so that may be the case with all the other HICAS 240's, but as far as I know, they are pretty #### rare..  Mine's got abs and LSD too.

Not all 91-94s had Hicas, my 93 SE doesnt, and it doesnt have a vlsd. But yes, only certain model s13's had vlsd.  I read somewhere that all canadian 240s had a vlsd. Check www.240sx.org the installs page, it has lots of info on which models had vlsd and lots of other info.

Sorry, I guess I was misinformed. I've got a '91SE (as you can see down there :biggrin: ) and I've got HICAS. I want an LSD though. Lucky you guys.
P.S. I think we discussed this already and it was stated that NOT all Canadian models have LSD & ABS.

hmm I got a vlsd diff and there isnt a sticker on my diff

You should have a serial number on your LSD. Not all HICAS cars came with stickers, quite obviously!

actually s14's don't have hicas =P and instead of checking serial numbers looking for the ones that are lsd just lift up the rear end and spin one of the tires
