Went to the yard today and pulled some q45 calipers and rotors. Im a little stumped on what bracket ppl are talking about. I know i used the q45 bracket and use the stock bolts and the rest pretty much lines up but if someone has a pic or could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Ive looked for pics on the bracket but no luck. I know halo among a few others have this upgrade so plz help! so i can get em for 50% off this weekend at the yard

all you need is the complete caliper assembly... there's no special bracket

Pretty much!!
got to redrill the rotors if you're 4-lug

Anyone know if theres an adantage to upgrading to Q45 rears as well? ;p
What about the MC? I took a look at it and it doesnt look like itll work...

might as well buy stainless steel lines as well.
Make sure you have all the clips and shit associated with the calipers. Clean that shit before you put it on your car as well.
obviously, you'll need brake fluid...buy some brake disc cleaner as well, it can't hurt and its only a buck or two.
Becareful, the calipers dont say which is left or right, and i accidentally swapped them because they fit both ways. If you put 'em on the wrong side, you'll know because you 'll have zero brake pressure.
Just remember the bleeder screw should be pointing UP i believe (its less obvious than you think!!!)
Have you considered trading them in for a remanufactured pair? It'll be like getting totally unused ones....
You'll appreciated the slightly larger pads and rotors.
Don't forget to bed the pads properly ( a few 60-0 runs and a few 80-0 runs i believe)

do the 240sx stainless lines fit the Q45's brakes?
Seems like this is a really straight forward swap. Kinda got the same questions as others....
Anyone know if theres an adantage to upgrading to Q45 rears as well? ;p and could the factory 240 MC handle both?

what size is the q45 MC? 17/16?

yep, just get 240sx stock replacement stainless steel lines, the q45 brakes fit perfectly.
U dont need the rears or a new master cylinder, works fine with stock MC.

EXACTLY!
the q45 calipers mount up to the stock 240sx brackets and lines. So, any replacement parts are just "off-the-shelf" parts.
Bleed the brakes when you are done. Then bleed them again in a day or two (or after a few 60-0 runs). If you plan on getting some new brake lines, then get some good brake fluid. Dot4 or Dot5.1 No sense in spending money on calipers and rotors if you just boil your fluid at every hard stop. :)
Its a very worth-while upgrade, in my opinion, and VERY inexpensive for what you get.

and how is the clearence? I know Halo has SSr mesh and the Q45 brakes so I assume the clearence should be pretty good.
Halo: you autocross and everything so I know you gotta be hard on them. How are they compared to the factory brakes? At first (besides them being very small) i thought the factory brakes were fine, but I've been pushing the car a lot harder as of late and it is hard to slow down quickly without locking up. I don't want to do the Z32 brakes b/c I'm a big fan of old school wheels and don't want to run into clearence issues.
Thanks!

Whoa, I don't know about DOT 5, everyone i've talked to suggests DOT 3/4... I"m using the Valvoline DOT 3/4, and it's fine
Any year 90-96 shoudl work i believe
I'm running them on stock S14 DE wheels

so the q45 brakes will clear the stock steelies and out or the q45 brakes to the 300zx brakes which one do u guys say is better?

3z brakes are clearly superior performance wise, you get 4 piston calipers and if you get the aluminum ones, they're lighter.

Not so...you may get 4 pistons, but they are 4 smaller pistons.
2 big pistons vs 4 smaller ones...who cares, as long as the either one can produce the same clamping force.
300ZX weighs ~3400lbs, Q45 weighs +4000lbs...so the Q brakes obviously have the stopping power.
And brake fade resistance is no better with one vs the other...that's based off the rotor size (assuming similar pads), and Q45 is the same size as a 300ZX rotor, just 2mm thinner (or thicker if you happen to get 26mm calipers!!!).
Q45s work just as well for me at Sebring, local road race events, etc...even on my heavy S14.
Now, does that mean I'm going to run them forever...no. I need the better pad selection that comes with having Z-brakes...Q45 pad selection is limited to Metal Masters and...hhhmmmmmm...that's about it.

kinda pricey... I wonder what brake pads the kit includes.

What about the japanese brands? like Project MU or Endless. There's no other performance pads for the Q45?

That's a "Nissan Motorsports" 240SX big brake upgrade...so I bet they're stock pads. But who knows...
You can order that from any Nissan dealer that does NM stuff...
But $800...no way. Junk yard calipers, with a warranty, are in the $35/caliper range, new Powerslot rotors are $90/each, and Axxis MM pads are $45...you can get a better setup for ~$500 less.
Hell, I just added these to my daily driver S13, and it cost only $185, but I used new blank rotors ($37 each), new cheap-o pads ($21), a calipers at $40 each (expensive for a U-Pull-It, but what can you do).

I wasn't sure about the caliper piston thing: if # of caliper doesn't matter, why do larger cars or performance cars have more pistons? WRX has two, STi has 4, TL A-spec has 8 (i think), etc...
Doesn't weight matter also?
I've obviously never compared them head to head, but i'm just wondering

The bling factor...hehe.
And weight is the most important factor, but for brakes, it's a necessary evil.
I think the number of pistons has to do with consistency...a twin piston, sliding caliper (sliding calipers are what come stock, and Q45 are sliding) pushes from the back side, which forces the outer pad in to the outside of the rotor...but that could be uneven, causing one pad to wear more b/c more force on it.
4 piston fixed calipers push evenly from both sides, all the time. Causes nice, even pressure, good modulation, etc...all good when you coming down from 120 while entering a 30mph corner with no ABS.
Google-ize it, I'm sure there are great sites out there that will educate you about braking performance.
