im looking to buy a s13 and i hope this isnt a stupid question, i tried searching but my computer froze. would it be a better idea to buy a shell and drop in a motor and tranny, or would it be smarter to just buy a complete one. i understand with a shell you have more options but would it come out in savings or no? :newbie:

No matter what you do building these cars will cost you money. Although it would be better to buy something that has close to what you want. For example I bought my s13 coupe almost completely stock. The money I just put into it for my swap and required parts to get it running right cost me around 6k not including cost of the car. When I could have bought a decent swapped s13 for around that price to begin with. Its honestly all in what you want out of the car, regardless its going to cost you time and some money. Good luck with your search and I suggest looking at the marketplace here for some cars, there are always California cars up for grabs here.

Really depends if you can find good deals with shells and parts nowadays, with a lot of ridiculous prices some people post shit up for.

I've taken both routes, and honestly I regret taking the built car route than building it myself (not that I had any headaches or issues with it), just that I couldn't decide what I wanted to put in it and also I didn't build a stronger bond for these cars, as I do now.

Up until now, is that I'm finally building my car to what I want it and what purposes I want to use it for (restoration/weekend car).

Ya some of the prices I've seen are stupid high 240s are the only cars I've seen that prices vary so much there could be two identical ones but one be 2500 and the other 4000 I've just learned to be patient.

You're in norcal like me, there are almost going to be no well built cars here, your best bet would be to stay patient and find a pristine condition car not on craigslist and offer them money, I would just build it myself, that way you know whats in the car
