Apexi N1 or Muffler Shop Special????

What is so special about all these exhaust systems out there??? y pay so much money for one when u can just get a good muffler shop to build u one alot cheaper. I mean it's just a pipe as long as it's fairly striaght how much difference could there be in the performance. Plus, u can get a shop to just drop the cat completely, (of course no pollution laws enforced down here) also giving u a little more power, and i want to put a different muffler on there besides the one that comes with the Apexi. Was just wondering cause i will pay for an exhaust system if it's goin to give me more hp but if it doesn't really matter then i think i goin to try to save a buck.  :-P   Thanks

It might be good, but not as good.  Most good aftermarket exhaust systems (like A'PEXi N1 and 5Zigen Fireball) are designed to be as straight as possible with CAD systems.  My N1 is almost a straight pipe...has two very slight bends.  They're also mandrel bent, not crush bent.  If you can find a reputable muffler shop that can mandrel bend a pipe through the straightest route possible under the car then performance probably wouldn't differ....otherwise, it would.

I have an N1 system on my car. It does not have a cat included with the system, you need that seprately. Also, the N1 gave me a lot of high end power without hardly any low end power loss. I dont know for sure but can a muffler shop offer those same results?

I'm pretty sure CAD stands for Computer Assisted Design. &nbsp;The N1 bolts right up to your stock cat. &nbsp;Mine is single. &nbsp;
I can't speak from experience so I could be wrong, but I don't think your everyday muffler shop will be able to offer an equal product.

it is called cat-back for a reason.... meaning after the cat, or on the back of the cat. so ofcourse a cat doesnt come with it *sigh* sorry for being fresh but my life is going down hill AGAIN... YES AGAIN!

the piping on the systems are designed with less bends, bigger piping, stainless steel piping, less restictive air flow, mandred bent, and if there is bends then it is placed properly for backpressure and less restrictive.

or u can just go and get a universal muffler and go to an awesome custom exhuast place and have them mandred bend a stainless steel custom system for u.... and u will pay about the same

kewl u know i never really realized what cat-back meant i thought it was a special kinda muffler system or something lmao neway, well duh that sounds so simple now. You get a De-Cat pipe m8.(a cat replacement pipe)
I`ve got a HKS Superdragger Cat-back and what i`m going to do is get a De-cat pipe from Norris Designs and use it all year round for more noise and power. And when my cars M.O.T comes round i`ll put the CAT back on so it passes its emissions. They`re not much. There was a guy on 200sxweb doing them for about £90.
