So I bought this short shifter off ebay, looked like it came with all the necessary stuff, etc etc, i get it today, lookin good, print out sykikchimp's install instructions, all is going well, when to my surprise, the short shifter I bought doesnt come outfitted with the plastic ring to hold pressure down on the ball, as indicated by the pictures here

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid124/p515fc0ae0716a8e05772469b861e5ece/f81e429d.jpg (Caption reads: "This piece is missing on the new short shifter. The original is in place just as shown on the stock shifter above).

Problem is, even if I got another one of these pieces from nissan or wherever, the short shifter is one solid piece of metal, and there is no way it is going to fit over any part of it to be situated where it needs to be.

Please, anyone with any ideas or who has maybe encountered a similar problem PLEASE help me out.... I really wanna get that thing on my car :( I had to reassemble stuff back to stock and that wasnt any fun. I really hope i didnt spend money on this POS for nothing.
Thanks guys

Um...hate to tell you, but I think you really need that top ring. You probably got the square metal bracket with the 2 curved lower pieces which hold it altogether. The problem is that the top white ring secures the shifter from popping up and moving around while in the shifter cavity. I'd say you need to contact the person who you bought the shifter from and say that the "product" didn't come with the top ring. If in some way you can remove the old one, I'm not sure how well it will work.....

I installed a similar "Ebay" item - something made by "MK1". It took some playing with to secure it, but it's in there and after some break in time it definately shifts shorter than stock.

mine is dead solid, unforutnately. I can even see the welds. I guess thats what i get for not buying name brand! haha I emailed the guy and he asked me some more quesitons about the problem- he seems like he's acting quite helpful and eager to fix the situation. Worst come to worst I can hopefully get my money back.

Do you think it might be possible to get that piece from nissan, make a clean slice, slip it around the shifter, and heat it with like a soldering iron to just melt the plastic back together? I'm gettin desperate here! lol, who knows if i can even buy just that piece from nissan.

Wha? So the OBX short shifters are hollow? Is this bad? Has anyone ever broke one?

Damn....

dude....he didnt mean hallow....the shifter is a long piece of equipement, with several different "sections" along the way. Apparently, some models can be screwed apart, and others are welded where different portions meet the next. Comprende?
