I’m doing a small rebuild to my s14 SR20DET. I’m a college student, so I definitely working on a budget. On the bottom end, I’ll probably be keeping the stock rods and pistons. Thus I was a bit confused on what bore size and thickness the head gasket should be. I’ll probably get an Apexi or Cometic head gasket. Stock bore size is 86mm I believe so would the head gasket need to be 86mm or something slightly bigger at 87mm? Should the thickness be 1.5mm or 1.8mm?
Thank you for the help!

relatively stock to stock motor, factory pistons? Keep it at 86 x 1.1mm. Don't go Cometic, I mean, you can if you want, but seems like it's a hit or miss with that headgasket from reading some reviews. Apexi and Cosworth have good reviews though. I have an Apexi myself. You can go 87mm and it wouldn't hurt but it wouldn't yield any gains or anything. If you do a search on this forum, you'd find a lot of info on this subject.

I agree, but if you are not having the block and head machined don't go cometic or any mls hg. Save yourself the trouble. Just use oem type and I say type because the oem price is ridiculous sometimes.
