Trying to get the block clean for a head gasket. The head was rebuilt and I wasn't sure of this is clean enough I don't wanna over do it. You can still see the imprint of the old head gasket but it's smooth to the touch.

And what are peoples opinion on copper spray on hg. It's a Feel pro HG and arp head studs, stock bottom end.

Don't copper spray a felpro. That surface prep is more than enough for a graphite composite gasket to seal. It is designed to melt slightly and seal all of the small scratches, pits and imperfections. If you were using a MLS gasket I'd recommend having the head decked at minimum. I have had good results using plastic razor blades, gasket scrapers and non-abrasive scotch brite pads. 3M also makes brittle discs designed for use on aluminum heads which is more than adequate to clean an iron deck. So take home message: Surface looks good, wipe down with some carb or brake cleaner before installing gasket and make sure to check block and head for straightness per FSM.

Just use permatex gasket remover and a razor blade. Some of that stuff you're seeing is in the pores of the metal and it won't come up. That's all good.

Take a vacuum cleaner and suck all the loose shit you knocked into the cylinders, out. button it up and drive.

Don't use permatex cooler spray unless you want unpleasant experiences with failing head gaskets.

No spray on a crush gasket.
