I just purchased 1995 S14 w/ SR notch w/58k miles (the motor was a 0 mile build)
and 1st gear seems to be tricky. It tends to grind 50% of the time same with Reverse.. Do i need a new clutch? any advice, i am all ears.

Typically when a transmission grinds, it's because of bad synchros.
Try adjusting the clutch peddle and see what happens. Maybe it's not fully engaging.

There is a push-rod connecting the peddle to the master cylinder. Look under the dash. Ask it is is a jam-nut to loosen the rod, then a wrench to turn the rod.

Watch out when shifting while your car is warming up to temps. When I had redline in my trans, it would grind when shifting into first. To avoid the grind, I would throw it back into neutral first before putting it into 2nd. After driving for 15min, I was good to go from first right into second.
Switched to amsoil a while back and problem fixed.

interesting thanks for the heads up but if the problem comes back I will definitely give amsoil a try!
