I bought a Kakimoto exhaust setup for my Z and the muffler has a silencer stuck in it. Before you ask, yes, the screw is out.

I tried heating it up and spraying WD-40 in between the silencer and the muffler tip, but after doing it 4-5 times it is still as stuck as it was when I started.

I also tried using a blind hole puller from autozone, but it just marred the hell out of the inside lip of the silencer because it wasn't big enough.

I really want to get it out because its a huge restriction on the whole system. Any ideas what I could do? My friend suggested cutting the bottom apart and spreading it to get it loose, but I don't want to cut my exhaust up

Don't cut it. I'd try a slide hammer or a dent puller.

stick a long object like a broomstick or something metal in it through the small hole. Use an up and down, side to side motion, damn common core!

Is there anywhere I can rent one from? I really don't want to cut it and ruin it

I tried with a 4ft pry bar to no avail. I have also clamped vice grips on each corner and hit them with a hammer to attempt to loosen it up and is still stuck.

ok, are you sure it's not built in?

Positive, there wouldn't be a screw in the bottom of the tip that goes into it if it was built in.

I imported the exhaust from Japan so I want to be gentle with it because of how much I paid for it.

Just drive it around the block until it shoots out.:2f2f:

I went to O'Rileys and rented a slide hammer and puller. Lets just say I bent the slide hammer's handle and ruined the puller's threads and its still in... I don't think a clothes hanger is going to get it... :-/

I guess I am either going to chop the muffler off and replace it with a Vibrant muffler or cut it and try to remove the silencer. I'd hate to destroy such an awesome muffler though...

Pfft, that's what you get for buying a quality piece.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Looks like you gotta use a hacksaw, cut the inner piece in sections then use pliers to yank it out. Good luck.

Right, I spent a shit ton of money to get it to the states and this is what I get. :picardfp:

pencil grinder/die grinder with cutting disc. Work inside to out. Be very gentle with the cutting. It might take a while, but you will slowly get chunks out and work on down. Could possibly use bur bits. Just move your hands like a surgeon. Slowly remove sections.

wear safety glasses at the bare minimum. Watch yourself to, doesn't take much to lose a finger.

That would probably work, I will try it tomorrow. I could probably cut it with a hacksaw all the way down the middle then use my dremel to get the rest of the way through. Sounds like I am going to be having a lot of fun getting it out :(

Drill two or three holes in it near the tip. place some rods in there and use a rachet strap against a solid object like a pole and rachet it until it slides out.

Or use the same idea and get a strap with a hook on the end. rachet it out that way.

Try a reverse gear puller? Advance auto has the loaner tools where you can undo the puller and flip the arms around where they'll slide into the silencer and pull outwards.

or like suggested hacksaw, cut it on the top, and another side so you can remove a small piece and slide the rest out.

I tried a reverse puller and it just bent the inner bit of the silencer.

I broke down and cut the center out. I still want to get the rest out, but my dremel hot enough to burn me through gloves so I will give it a bit to cool down.

Sounds much deeper and seems like I gained a bit of power from unrestricting the system.
