Anybody running a mines/enthalpy or other tuned ecu bought from ebay? I used to have a power fc but because of insurance i had to sell it. So I'm thinking of sending out my stock ecu to be tuned
My engine is 100% stock except for intake 550cc inj and exhaust manifold. Apparently built internals but whatever.
Anyways i want around 215-230whp which i heard was attainable by turning up my boost to around 12psi on a stock setup.
However I'm still using the smic again cause of insurance. Do the mines ecus actually work very welland would 215-230 be attainable with one?

I had a case where somebody slammed into my parked snowmobile which was highly modified. He hurt himself and then sued me. In the lawsuit they named my highly modified sled as a dangerous vehicle and my "excessice speeds" as an arguement regardless of my snowmobile being parked in a lot and me not even on it.
My insurance almost dropped me and my car insurance/bike/life and jetski insurance right there. They ended up holding up for me but they were very clear about modifications to my vehicles. They told me i had to disclose any mods with them and they may say no if its too outrageous so I'm trying to keep them fairly mild.
They also expect monthly check ins and inspections to make sure i haven't changed anything major without consent. Being 18 my insurance is very high and this is the only company that will insure a 20 year old car under $300/month for me.
So long story short I'm trying to keep them happy but still have a bit of fun.

Most of the Mine ECUs on ebay don't list what they're tuned for. Not sure if there's a way to find out but unless you know what it's been tuned for I wouldn't buy it. Just watch out for the enthalphy/jwt ecu upgrade/retune listings on ebay. They're most likely emance tunes which I've mostly heard bad things. Just go to RS Enthalpy's website and get your ecu tuned there. They're great tunes and are very reliable. Hope that helps.

You can have the bin dumped and analyzed.
Most mines ecu have the 02 and knock flags turned off.
The timing is sometimes very aggressive. 93+ octane only
They do tend to idle like stock, when you have the correct injectors and mafs.
The z32 550 bin in mines rom tunes have the wrong latency for most 550cc injectors, they have the latency of the stock injectors.

Nistune is a reasonably priced option that utilizes factory ECU. Cost me $575 for software, license, hardware installation, and return shipping. BTW it sounds like you need to switch to liability only insurance. Why have full coverage on a 20 yr old car?

I only have liability....lol trust me that's as cheap as it gets for me.
So all in all would you recommend doing it this route and will it be somewhat realiable. I understand a dyno tune with standalone is always beetter but at this point i don't have the funds

It is very reliable. Keep in mind, though. The Nistune software will come with base maps only. Injector sizing and MAF sensor type can easily be adjusted by a novice user. Higher boost levels will still require a proper tune, either on a dyno, or by doing some road pulls while keeping an eye on the wideband. Upside to Nistune is it's gauge display (via your connected laptop computer) allowing users to view O2 sensor, throttle position, injector pulsewidth, and other data.
