Hello,
I am trying to figure out what might be different from a 95 KA24DE s14 ecu and a 96. I own a 95, but bought a Megasquirt DIYPNP ecu from a 96, was able to hook up to it via AC power plug with my laptop, load default KA24DE base tune and such, but when I hooked it to my car, I was no longer able to connect via laptop, and the car would not start. I hooked up old ECU, worked just fine. Is there anything different from the 96 ECU's that would make it not work on my 95?
Thanks

I don't know if it matters but a 95 is odb1 and a 96 is odb2

Yeah, I was aware of that, but heard that an obd2 ecu in an obd1 car was ok, it would just throw some codes because obd 2 has some sensors that 1 does not, and would let you know. It should still run none the less I heard? I just cant seem to find anyone who knows for sure, or what to do about it, lol.

Contsct megasquirt?
I did in fact do that, but the outcome left a bit to be desired. I was told it "should work fine". I contacted the person who I bought the system from as well, and was assured it worked just fine when it was removed. He also said to try KA-T.org, which I did, as well as megasquirts forums, but my posts seem to get deleted.. I can never find solid answers, or anyone who actually knows about any differentiation between the two years and their ECU's. : \
have you tried to get the ecu pinout for both and verify all wiring is the same

if you havent set it to TDC, it will not work. unlike oem ecu, megasquirt cant figure out the location of the pistons as well as the timing.

You sure? I thought that replacing the distributor trigger wheel had something to do with that.
Though, that would be a different issue all together. I cant even get the ecu to connect with the laptop, similar to if I have no power at all, so I am guessing it may be something with the pinout of the harness being a bit different somehow. I am trying to look in to this though.
Actually connect the ECU to my laptop while plugged in to the car is step one, because it has no lights on the ECU itself to show that it is powered on.

Thanks a shit ton to Kfred from the KA-T.org forum for helping me figure out the main issue. Turned out to be the EGI fuse in the bay. The backup power was enough to run the stock ECU all this time, and turns out I didnt even have an EGI fuse the whole time I owned the car.
Long, several hour story short, the ECU fire up now, and I am able to connect via laptop and view everything, but wont fire up just yet. That is something for another day though. I will work on that tomorrow.
Thanks again man!

I am sure because I have it too. My starter would endlessly spin the crank without the engine starting. It ended up being the timing. In the manual that I recieved when I ordered it stressed the importance of having it at TDC in order to get the timing right. You alas need a timing gun to figure out where your timing exactly is. That would help you retard or advance your timing as you need to.
