Once again i'm posting because I'm looking at a 240sx and possibly buying if it's worth it. (I feel like it is from what I seen but more experienced 240 guys/girls will be able to tell me more.) It's a 1992 240sx, Not sure if, Base, LE, or SE, or HICAS, How can I tell what model or if it has the hicas, program? or not. I'm not sure what it is. 100% stock/original, 100,000~ miles, 5 speed, Runs and drives perfect, No mechanical issues, Couple dings in the body but nothing major, 1 owner, clean title. Here's the only pics I have, from the ad. I havn't looked at it in person yet and that's all the info he gave me. In the pics it looks like the paint might be in the best shape..
Main thing is I do NOT need this car, I've always wanted a S13 hatchback which is the only reason I'm considering buying it. I been saving up for a MK4 toyota supra and this will put alittle dent in my supra money. But that can always be recovered. Depending on whether this is actually a good deal. I was thinking either flip the car, Drive it awhile to save gas etc and continue saving for supra and than sell it, Or just keep it... I have no idea. Lol. Basically if it's a good deal I'll probably buy it. If it's just a normal price or something than probably not. What would a 240 like this be worth?
Thanks for any help! Cheers

It would help if you told us the price of the car so we can tell you if it's worth it or not

Sorry, He's asking $2300. He didn't say obo, firm, etc. No idea how much he'd negotiate.

I think that's a damn good deal considering it is one owner, assuming it's a clean title, and hopefully it hasn't been abused. Just ask for the service records and see how well they maintained it.

Well just by looking at the car posted in your OP it has a sunroof, most likely it has power windows, correct? The wheels also indicate that its an SE model.
SE and LE are power everything. Meaning windows, sunroof, etc.
Base is no sunroof, manual windows.
For HICAS not really sure about maybe someone has more info about it. I know that its a rack, that's about it though.
As for the car, I think it would be a steal if you get it for that price. If you look at craigslist some people have crappy looking 240's selling for like 3-4k. If your down to get, buy it. Good luck.
Cant see the pics, at work. But, I will say, I would never pay over 2k for an s13 (stock)
Dont negotiate over the internet or phone. Show up with a wad of cash and do your dealing there.
Dont buy a 240sx to "save gas". If thats your plan, pick up a $500 running civic.
Good luck on your supra hunt, hope you've got 20 large in your pocket

After more google'ing I think you're right, all power, the wheels of se. Most likely a SE model. Also looked around at pricing and 2k may seem like alot stock but the rarity of finding a decent one is the reason they cost so much imo.

Maintenance is something I want to know about also. Is there any major maintenance things on 240's. Example 90,000 mile timing belt, water pump on hondas, Etc.

cash to the face is what always works! haha. I guess save gas isn't really a reason to buy it since I already have a civic hatch for that, Gets 40 mph! Haha.

Problem with the supra hunt will be finding the right one, Thanks though :)

PM me the VIN# and I'll tell you all about this car.
Also, HICAS models are 4-wheel steering with some components in the rear suspension different from standard cars. They have a thicker sway bars, 25mm up front and 21mm in the rear, come with ABS, VLSD, and are always fully loaded models.

With as little info as the listing sounds like it is providing, It almost sounds like a scam.
Link to listing? or Provide Steve with the vin number so it can be verified you aren't walking into a trap or scam.... Wish stuff wasn't this way, but these days craigslist is always having phony listings.

It's a good deal. I wouldn't say it's a scam. But most people outside of the OMG240SRSWAPDRIFTLYFEY0 world don't see the 240 as anything special. It's just something their Aunt Gladys had in her garage when she passed and now it's time to get rid of it. Especially when it's clean like this. I got two people within 7 miles of me that have clean examples like this. One guy just moved up from SC and his Kayak is strapped to the top of his at all times. He's like 58 and does drywall. The other guy is around the same age but he also has an old as sh1t Corolla. Not the Initial D one, but the fwd 4 door suck bucket. Just cars to both of them. I'd say go for it. If you don't destroy it, you can probably get your money out of it when you sell it.

It's refreshing to see one of these threads featuring a car that is not a complete & total pile of prohibitively overpriced shit.

In terms of flipping it, it would depend on what city you're in and how convincing of a salesman you can be. In a small town, the 240 market is probably shit. But in Houston, stock examples are relatively rare, and you could demand a reasonably profitable price. Don't expect to see a huge profit. I'd be happy if I got $1000 out of it.

Go through the classifieds/marketplace, find comparable cars that sold in your area, and PM the seller what he got for it in a nice way. That's real time market data that will answer your questions.
Don't listen to people who are butt hurt that 240's are overpriced, which they are. People who make more than minimum wage are usually not worried about paying a bit of a premium for a cleaner car to start with, rather than getting a mismatched drift missile that they can brag they got for a "steal."

If your looking for a MK4, I've seen one here in AZ for $9,500. It's pretty damn clean and looked unmolested from walking around. It's NA and an auto if that matters to you.
On another note, if the 240 in the pic is legit and not a scam.......then good find and work it down just a bit. Make sure to thoroughly inspect it and know how much it'll cost to fix the issues you find.

I'll get to vin code and pm killer, I'll ask for it tomorrow. It would definately be hard to sell it locally. I think the only possible way to flip it would be autotrader, ebay, etc, There's a local 240 group that would have already scooped the car if they wanted it. I'm sure other people that aren't to into 240's think it's overpriced because of blue book and such. Also don't worry about the car getting turned into a missle car or something if I bought it. I can't stand a dirty car. All my cars are clean without dings or anything. My integra i'm building (800whp) has gotten a crack in the paint on the quarter panel somehow, I don't think anyone understands how much that ticks me of haha. I'm wanting to get a whole new paint job now... Everytime I find a little scratch on my cars it'll bug me forever, Lol. Gotta have clean cars!!! Here's my civic and my integra, Front bumper off teg, and that's when it had old turbo setup..

^New shortblock I built for the integra capable of 1200whp, Darton sleeves, CP Pistons w/ upgrading pins, Brian crower 625+ rods, ACL race bearings, Micropolished/balanced forged crank, ATI super damper, All ARP bolts, main bolts, arp 625+ rod bolts, crank pulley bolt, etc, Moroso oil pan, shortblock ready to go :D
Ok back to 240... I get carried away when I talk about cars.. Lol
I've always wanted a 240 though, and 240 hatchback is the only way i'd go personally. So this is actually the car I want. Lol Probably is I'm trying to get a mk4, This will delay that by a bit if I keep it. If it's flipped than it would help.
