Once upon a time my diff made no noise when it was oem in my s13. Decided to weld it and the bearings got scorched and howled like no other. So I bought a kazz 2 way off here. The guy said the backlash and everything was fine as I bought it in the case. Filled it up with oil and it runs good. However there is a small clunk upon starting which I hear is normal but thought I should mention it. My problem is on decel, under load it makes no noise but as soon as you stop accelerating with the clutch still released it starts sounding like a jet engine. Just a rediculously loud whine, if you push in the clutch it goes away.

Any tips on setting backlash? Like a guide? I sure couldn't find one. Also couldn't find where to buy a set of shims.
Also if it would be to hard to explain what type of shop could I take it to? (sounds expensive though as setting backlash seems time consuming)

Not abnormal if you have a non-OEM disk in... it's especially loud in 4th gear from 2-2.5k RPM off throttle.

This is the engine knocking the pinion around at the natural frequency of the diff. OEM clutch disk has the correct spring stiffness to elminate this. Most aftermarket sprung disks are so far off the noise is there or even worse than a solid disk.

^^^Makes sense. My Tomei is doing the same thing and the deceleration howling started after installing a different clutch and flywheel.

Well it is right after i changed to an exedy stage 2, 3 puck...
Makes since tho. Any chance it will die out after some miles? It doesn't bother me as long as its fine and nothing is going to break on me driving it.
Its mainly in the higher gears when cruising that i notice it like you said. Thanks for your help

It will stay the same. It won't hurt anything, it's just loud.

My osGiken 2-way howls on decel as well. And it was set up proffesionally.
