Here's the story:
I have a 2006 350z that I don't want to sell but I'm going back to school and it's going to cost an arm and a leg to do it so I'm thinking about selling my Z. With that said, I have been looking on craigslist for cars. I'm thinking I can get about $13k for my Z since it's modified a tad and it's going to cost around $5k for grad school so I have about $8k to play with. I found a 95 S14 shell on craigslist for about $1k. I'm thinking about getting it but hopefully for just 800 or so. I don't know much about 240s but will $7k be enough to get a good engine with a lot of horsepower as well as paying someone to install it and tune it as well as getting a paint job and rims? I'm looking at probably an sr20det. I live only a couple blocks from school and work so I can walk or ride my bike to both so I will have time to get all of that done just don't know if I will have enough money to do it.

If you want to focus on school, DON'T buy a project car!!! You would be MUCH better off keeping the Z and getting a loan for the $5k or whatever it's going to cost for school. Buying a shell and building it from the ground-up is time consuming and expensive, especially considering that you're not knowledgeable about s-chasis in the first place. If you can't do your own work you'll end up spending more on labor than the parts too. Don't piss into the wind man. Either keep the Z and get a loan, or sell it and buy something reliable. Buying a project in your position is just stupid...

You sir sound like a wise man. THIS is probably the best advice.
Or you could sell the z and buy a beater honda or camary.

Sell the Z, buy a cheap daily, and go invest in a mutual fund. When you're rich as shit, buy all the project cars your heart desires, and worry not about petty financial concerns.

If you ever want money in your bank account I highly suggest you dont buy a 240... JK but for real I agree with selling the Z and getting a nice DD. +1 for Honda

5K for grad school isn't too bad, I thought it was more in the ballpark of 20K+. I would just get a loan and pay it off quick when you get that good job later down the road.

BUY A CIVIC! GO TO SCHOOL! GET A CAREER! MAKE MONEY!!! THEN BUY A PROJECT CAR!!!
Education + Career > Cars
A career and a reliable salary will pay for the car... not the other way around.

:stupid:
project cars are just that...projects, keep a solid reliable daily, either sell the Z to fund school and get a reliable daily, or get a loan for school n keep the Z. One thing with that though, is DONT make the Z into a "project" mods are cool n shit but try not to affect reliability, thats what a project car is for
