I was asking Jonathan (Redsuns) about this, but am still looking for more info. I understand that an s14 turbo can be had for 300-400 dollars..however, an s15 turbo is upwards of 900! Other than the wastegate dump tube divider wall, whats the differance? I know the s15 is BB, but Jonathan said the s14 spools faster because of a differant material used in the turbine wheel.

You can find s15 turbos on ebay for around $675-750

The S14 T28 *also* has a ball bearing center section. The only differences are the Inconel turbine (which breaks easier than the steel one) and the divider by the wastegate.

Damn Drew, 277rwhp/249rwtq?! How much boost did you run on the t25 during that pull? Anyway, I came across this during my search on if the t28's (s14 or S15) can bolt right up to the redtop with no extra parts, like if you just need to swap over the oil/coolant lines. But yea, I was curious too about the differences in s14 and s15.

the exhust side on the s14 t28 is a little smaller than the s15..and the s15 turbine one has that hi tech stuff on it like eric said and i used the stock s14 lines on my s13 redtop and it worked great..

I'd be happy w/ s14 turbo, but no money.

Maybe a turbo upgrade would help, I'm running so rich as is.

the exhaust side is identical with the exception of the divider wall and inconel wheel.

correct.........the automatic S15 turbos.....which are IDENTICAL in every way to your S14 turbo

Maybe just the Spec-R's??

what's the purpose of the divider thing?
actually not all MT turbos are the same either, both s15/14 had different turbos depending on the year the car was made. click here (http://www.nissansilvia.co.nz/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2186&highlight=)

the "S15 turbo" that everyone considers the upgrade, and everyone is after is the Spec-R turbo.....not the base, not the automatic...........

what's the purpose of the divider thing?
To keep the wastegate exhaust seperate from the turbine exhaust a little longer and make the two streams merge a lil smoother. less turbulence in theory
what's the purpose of the divider thing?
to lower the turbulance caused by the exhaust comming from the turbine and the one comming from the wastegate, they work kindda like split wastegate downpipes (http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=206&Car_Type=300&UID=2004062514273866.176.122.97)

not true...I got the S13 lines to fit very well w/o kinks....takes a little time.
To add a little more confusion to the mix....not all S14 turbo's are ball bearing either.

To keep the wastegate exhaust seperate from the turbine exhaust a little longer and make the two streams merge a lil smoother. less turbulence in theorySo basically an s14 t28 doesn't have the divider wall like the S15 t28 (http://store3.yimg.com/I/jspec_1783_130316505) does, and adding the Trust turbo extension (http://images.andale.com/f2/130/114/10329798/1052553874398_Trust_TurboExtension_SR20_02.jpg), which has the divider wall, should give the same gains as the s15 t28 minus the Iconel turbine wheel advantage, right?

pretty much. There is also a difference in the type of bearings used in the CHRA of the S15 turbo vs the S14 turbo. But as far as the compressor/exhaust housings and compressor/turbine they are the same (in terms of what kind of power they will support)
