On the left I bought, said to be from 5 speed sr20det trans. On the right is off my s13 sr20det chuki (e5 ecu). They do visually seem to be the same in total length and almost identical and look like it may be interchangeable but...

In red circle, one of those is bigger. In the blue circle on right, a gear that isn't present on the left. It maybe in a different gear and so the gears moved? In the yellow circle, this thing with a spring on it. What is that? it's not on the trans to the right. Ignore that shaft marked with the pink line.

I originally wanted to swap the guts of the trans but found them to be different. Are they interchangeable? I'm in need of a good working trans and thought I could just swap internals. The easiest would of been to buy a complete trans but I found this to be a more affordable route instead of shipping a whole trans which would cost two to three times as much, total. Look at me now. I'm about ready to just buy a complete transmission instead.

Here's a close up of that mechanism with the spring.

Rounded off gears? Can't be good. Not like this on my original trans.

Where I stated above the left trans with the missing gear, has a weld. Is that factory or custom?

Thanks in advance.

It's a possibility that 2 different manufactures built those. Or a possibility that one is an sr and the other is a ka.
The gears, the splines are not rounded off from being worn, theoreticly speaking. They are like that for easier engagement.

But I've read everywhere that the ka and sr trans are identical except the bell housing. I would just put it in and test it out if it wasn't soo much work. Thanks for the help though.

Can anyone identify the left trans?

Edit, Took me awhile to find the image but I found on the nrr forum, the trans to the left is an s13 ka trans.
