Hello everyone. I would like to thank you guys
Or gals for the help up front. I have a 1996 240sx with a s14 zenki sr. So know allll of a sudden I will be driving and the engine will just shut off and not start back up. It will start after about 5 minutes of sitting and I will make it about ten blocks and it will die again. Any help would be nice. Feel free to ask any ?s you may have. My phone number is 3478745530. Better with a call or a text. But I will check the post.

Could be anything and everything...you're gonna have to check a few things to eliminate what it could be. Start with the basics, engine needs fuel, air and spark to run, so check to make sure the engine is getting fuel and spark when it wont start. Once you figure out which one of the 2 isnt kicking on, then we can start figuring out what could be causing that specific item to not work.

check for vac leaks, blown fuses, loose wires, loose terminals.. etc... and check your ECU codes

Eliminated fuel filter is not clogged checked fuel pump it primes and pumps while car is running when it dies the pump shuts off I can hear the relay click. I've checked for engine codes on my redtop sr is it the same on my s14 sr? Checked all fuses they are good using a power probe. Checked for vacuum leaks can't find any. Found a little fuel leak but fixed that. I checked my clips on the engine harness none were loose. Cleaned my maf that wasn't it.

Check the connector that has the latch on it near the ecu. I know mine feels loose even when the latch is supposedly locking it.

You will need ecutalk or some kind of datalink to check for codes on the s14 sr ecu

Sounds to me you might be running rich, at least from just reading about your problem. I know when the IACV (idle air control valve) gets clogged or are bad this can happen. I'm not saying its the only thing, but it might be it. This happened to me, but my idle was also bad at times. Since you said it will clear up after a little while, my guess is the excess fuel would evaporate, but then once you started again you would choke out the engine until it cut off again. Just a thought/idea....

do you have a wideband? if you're running rich because of the IACV (which happened to me and ran pig rich) it could run like shit but i doubt it would make it shut off like that. Make sure you check your codes on the ECU. There's also a decent change that the coolant temp sensor that goes to the ECU (the two wire one) could be reading wrong so the ECU is throwing too much fuel in there and it dies. You can check the codes the same way as a s13 ecu i believe using the little dial and watching the red light blink. I could be wrong on that one though. Just a couple ideas.

I have ran into similar problems on other vehicles. On those cars it was the magnetic pickup in the distributor it gets hot and breaks contact after it cools it reconnects.

Rwd sr's don't use a distributor. They have individual coil packs on the spark plugs with an external ignitor

Sounds just like my problem..my car is at the shop right now and see if they can figure it out, but my car is a s13 ka. Check out my thread and see if anything useful is on there. Got plenty of help from people on there and I'm still updating it as things happen.
