View Full Version : squeaky tein HE's

Hey all,
I just installed my tein HE's about 3 weeks ago and have been driving around them set to full hard. I recently changed the dampin to 12 clicks in front and 10 in the rear for a smoother ride during a road trip. However, the springs in the rear seem to be very squeaky if I go over any large bumps that cause my suspension to do any sort of absorbing. I grew sick of the squeaking and have the damping set back at 16 for now (no noise at all).

Do any of you know what could be causing this noise? Did I install my coilovers incorrectly?---->When I was installing them, I did not compress the springs much at all, I just made sure they were firmly pressed against the top of the coilover thereby removing any loose slop in the shock.

Solution anyone?

Do a search. Tein HE are notorious for this. Search "tein he" and "noise" and you'll find it.

it's normal just listen to your music more than the squeeks. As long as your shit isn't clunking the your cool.

Alright, thanks guys.

One more question...the single top hex nut in which the damping adjustment knob protrudes from, should that nut be tightened down at all or should it be left just as TEIN has it? I run my suspension on full hard and don't want my coilovers to rattle themselves apart.

i have JICS and mine ar elike that too and mine are squeaky as hell too.. ive been meaning to tighten the nuts down. but ive rode like this for 2 months goin 30 over speedbumps it hasnt even turned a millimiter of t hread off

coilovers are gunna be squeaky its the nature of a stiff spring

Woah, you're running level 16? I had mine at about 10 and the car was nearly uncontrollable going over bumps / rough sections.

yeah my JICs are stiff as hell.. cant control it worth shit on bumps, and they squeak a little bit when its cold, but nothing major. its the nature of the design. stiff is gunna squeak.

WD40 or some lays patatao chip grease solves everything

I had that hex nut torqued down with an impact gun when i got my car aligned. My he's squeaked too and tightening that nut seemed to help with the noise. BTW, i run mine at 16 in the rear and 14 in the front daily. I got sick of changing the settings back and forth between track days. IMO, its not that rough. I only notice it when i have passengers, cuz then i really think about it. Sometimes i run 11 in the rear and 9 in the front, but it seems kinda bouncy.

um...i think you should be running your stiffer settings in the front and lighter in the rear. although our cars have very nice weight ratios front and back...it is still a front weight biased car.

this is true, but for drift, atleast for me anyway, i like more compression in the front...for weight transfer and what not. With the rear stiffer, i feel its easier to slide the car. I dunno, a slightly stiffer rear setting just makes more sense to me for a drift set up.

Hey,

About squeaking, I've got AGXs and Eibach sportlines and for some reason the right rear setup squeaks over almost any bump. I tired WD40 but it just made it worse. I this common? I was thinking that maybe I put a rubber section in backwards so that I've got rubber against metal. That's kinda what it sounds like. I'm thinking I need to pull the whole assembly out and re-check it, again. Everything in the suspension assembly is new, down the the last washer, straight from Nissan so I know it's not a worn part. Could it be that the shock itself is bad? hmmm.....

My AGX do that too...i think its fine...same situation as the HEs...

Yeah but only one of them? The others are all good. Now this isn't just a little sqeak. It's a full blown squeak that's very noticable in any driving condition. Here's what I'm wondering, why would it get worse with WD40? That's wierd.

super stiff doesnt always equal super handling...
wait, i dont drift.

wait, you're running 16kg/cm^2 in the rear? i didnt know tein HE's even go that high, or is that just the number of 'clicks'? F1 cars use something like 18kg/cm^2. How do you measure in kg/cm^2 if all u can hear is clicks?

MasterOFDrift

16 clicks as in 16 clicks not 16kgm ahhaha

well whats the 'conversion' between 'clicks' and kg/cm^2?

haha, the kg/cm is the spring rate and the clicks is the dampening (i think that's what's adjustable on HE's, I forget) level of the shock that they are set too. No conversion b/c they are two different things. The higher the clicks the stiffer the suspension will be, but the spring rate does not change...

well i feel like a dumbass, and rightfully so i suppose. What springs does he have on them now? i was thinking of running 8/6s or 7/5s, id hate to get 7/5s and then get used to them and want something a lil stiffer for autoX and have to buy more springs

my question is why would you want HE's if your into autoX.
If your worried about it then just get the 8/6's. or get the 7/5 and sell them when you want to upgrade....

even though the he's say "drift spec" they're not a bad coilover for auto-x at all. Matter of fact, my first run on the main course at dd17 my dampening was set up wrong...it was for grip not drift. I couldnt break the rear loose for anything, but i swear i gripped the crap out of that course. Seriously, had it been an auto-x course, i would've had a kick ass lap time! And when i go on the occasional mountain run, all i do is grip and the car handles great.

But anyway, he's are fine for auto-x.

Oh and just for clarification, the HE's are 16 way dampening adjustable and come with 8/6 spring rates.

Damn this is an old ass post, but did a search and founs this thread.
My megan racing coilovers started squeaking after me driving in the rain, is there anything I can do? I think only the rears are making the noise, the squaking makes my car look like junk damn it, I barely even drive it now, I can't stand it.

No, putting Megan's in your car makes it look like junk
(sorry, couldn't resist)
try cleaning them and putting some silicone grease in the contact areas

Actually it looks sik, I don't see why the hate with megans, but anyway, thanks for the advice...
