If you already have the ATS Metal LSD:

-Rebuild for the Standard 12 plate (metal LSD) IS $285 Shipped in US48. This includes 12 new plates and springs.

-Conversion Kit for Standard Metal 12 plate to Deftforce is $410 Shipped in US48. This includes ONLY 4 Plates all new gears, springs, and 2 cam rings. If you wanted to rebuild yours while converting to a deftforce you would have to also purchase the Standard 12 plate kit to make it a total of 16 plates. This is essentially replacing everything in your pumpkin and could be quite expensive if you went this route...

...However if all you wanted to do was rebuild your ATS Standard Metal LSD it would only cost you $285.

Just installed and broke in my ATS Carbon LSD last night and WOW!!!!! This thing is sooooo quiet. Even when we first pulled it off the trailor it barely clunked at all and it locks like a clutch type should only not as abrupt.. I love it... cant wait to put it to good use this Sunday @ Civil War!!

A few questions. Will they be able to be serviced in the US or at least get replacement disks. So it comes with bearings and oil or just oil?? IF it comes with the bearings i will have to pick this up becuase that would be the cost for a kaaz plus bearings

If you are reffering to the ATS Deftforce then Yes, it does come with Bearings, seals, oil, and all.

And yes these LSDs are serviceable in the US and parts are readily available too!

All Deftforces are Type R and all regular Metals are the S Type. Type R will have a harder initial lock aswell as in some cases have more discs. What kind of motorsports do you participate in? Tell me that and ill tell you what diff is best. :wiggle:

When i say Metal LSD i mean Metal clutch plates as apposed to Carbon plates. This is really only covered when reffering to ATS LSD as they are the only ones to offer Carbon Plates.

The Carbon does indeed wear faster, about 25% faster then the traditional metal LSD. Thats saying alot too because the ATS LSD will last for very, very long time before needing rebuild if properly maintained. The rebuild for Carbon is substantially more then the Metal of course, but again, these diffs last a long time... even under heavy abuse.

I suppose the Carbon could be considered more of a "Street" diff due to its quietness and NO clunking. IT will still lock the wheels when going around tight corners and the tire will chirp a little. I would say the carbon is more Road Race or Autocross oriented as it does not lock as abruptly as the Deftforce or regular Metal LSD.

i have already decided on a 1.5 way but not sure if i should go for carbon or deftforce. i road race and drift, what do you suggest?

For drifting you would want a 2.0 way in most cases as you are on and off throttle and the 2.0 way will keeo the wheels spinning on both acceleration and deceleration.

I personally do alot of Grip driving in my car and some drift. I chose the Carbon for its smooth engagement so the car does not upset when entering and exiting turns. I prefer the 2.0 way as my driving style incorporates alot of late braking and trail braking. Ive driven both and just feel more comfortable with the light understeer characteristics of the 2.0 way conifguration.

The 2 way isnt more "aggressive" per say then a 1.5way LSD. It will really just cause a bit of understeer. I have the Carbon 2.0 way in my personal car, and drive it on the street daily. Its amazing. If you do autocross and gymkana type of driving, you might want a 1.5 way. IT really depends on your driving style more then anything. Have you had experience with a 2.0 way that makes it aggressive for you? Just wondering because the Carbon LSD is a whole different breed of diffs.

i haven't had any experience with a Carbon 2 way......my only 2 way experience is with a steel 2 way......the reason i say more aggressive is b/c it has full locking capabilities during deceleration....and i don't necessarily think i would want that for daily use.....my car is going to be driven everyday including during the winter time.......also.......i do take part in a good number of autox events as well as HPDE events and I think that a 1.5 way would be better for my driving style......which is based more on a FWD platform since that is all i've had up until this point

honestly, for the driving you describe... id get the Carbon.... i guarentee you wont be disapointed... and its characteristics cannot be matched by any other LSD. Just save up the extra cash and get the LSD you want.... then you wont have any regrets. But if you really couldnt get the extra cash for some reason id go with an ATS Metal LSD... its less aggressive then the Deftforce.
