Well I got my OBX short shifter today and put it in. It defaintely shortend the throw but I didn't realize that when people say they are "clicking through gears" they really were CLICKING THORUGH GEARS. Its a hard click out of one gear and into the next. Not a smooth shift like with the stock shifter. Now I actually shift SLOWER than I did with my old stock shifter because when I try and shift fast with my new one I grind the #### out of the gears. It seems like EVERYBODY was saying this is a good shifter to get except when it breaks in half so I got it, now it sucks Maybe I installed it wrong??? Also the spacer rotates freely, is that ok? There isn't anything to bolt it to and the directions said not to tighten the screws too much holding those semicircle peices on the spacer. Any ideas or is this just what they are like? Thanks...

i'm sure u cant use ur old driving habits with it
i kno someone else got it too for their 240, read it on sro
but they said that it had a nice solid feel to it, even thou it didnt improve their times, but they still like the feel.

I think i'm going to go for the B&M shifter, even if it is 300 dollars... Although I just noticed that they don't seem to have one for my year, only 91-98. What's up with that??

Yeah, I wanted the B&M($300) or nismo (~$200) I just couldn't afford it. $300 VS $75?

I've got the OBX on my '95 and have no problems so far in the shifting dept.

The shifter of course does rotate on the top-end but the fix for that is soon.....might want to re-check how you installed it. Make sure when finished tightening the allen head screws to lift up on the collar and see if it's entirely secure....let us know if you remedy the problem

Transient: The B&M Shifter will work on 89-98 240SX's.

Ok, I didn't have those semi clrcle things tight enough to the spacer. I used thread locker this time and it doesn't spin anymore but I can't get my dust boot on. How is it suposed to fit over that huge shifter? (not the knob ) The hole is smaller than a dime and the shifter is biger than a quarter, I can't get it to streach.

just pull hard. i've found that my 1st-2nd shift is really rough in cold weather since i got the obx.

also, if something is spinning, then likely, the 2 parts have seperated and require some glue

I pulled as hard as I could, it hardly moves. I got it all covered in grease and slippery and tryed to strech it over with the help of a screw driver but it just won't go. Can I put it in the microwave or something So you just push it over? I'll see if one of my (bigger) friends can force it over, if not then I'll microwave it That or just cut it and tape it or something ghetto like that.

Trust me when I say it takes quite a bit of strength and some type of lubricant to get the thing......I've done it twice so I'm sure you can do it.....

After quite a bit of driving, my obx has loosened up just a bit and now feels just right. I know what you are saying DSC, it was real tight right after install, it felt good to me but was probably a little too tight. Give it awhile and it will probably loosen up just a bit like mine did.
Also, it did take a bit of getting used too, I grinded a few times at first with it too.
I think after a little while you will find you like it alot. Either that or you'll hate it hehe. If so, #### you prolly paid only $75 for it. Its better than paying $300 for a Nismo and then finding out you hated that one.

Good luck with it.

Agreed there. My boyfriend got a B&M one on his, and I had to drive it a few days ago and I could not pull the crap in. Now, I am kinda weak too, but... it's not my fault. The crap is hard to pull. Makes me think twice about getting mine.

ARRRG! I just can't get the boot over the shifter. It has to streach 3 times its size!!! its covered in grease, and it wouldn't go with two people pushing on it. What EXACTLY did you do to put it on?

but the rubber boot on from the top. cover the whole stick in grease, as well as the interior part of the rubber boot (the small hole). then just pull hard.

*SIGH* finally got it. I got the part underneath with the little lip and just pulled really hard and my dad used channel locks on the other side (4 hands wouldn't fit in that area) and we just pulled really hard and it finally went on. Now the slide lock strap thing that came with it doesn't fit the bottom part but once I get a new one of those I'll be done. What a pain in the ass. I hope I like it once I get used to it. Well other than an air filter this is my first mod. I'm sure you'll hear me complain a LOT more when I actually try to install something hard.
Anyway, thanks for the help

NOTE: This install was done mostly during comercial breaks...If you get one, it shouldn't take you two days

when you say your grinding gears?.. what exactly do you mean?.. r u saying that if you dont' get it in the slot it'll grind? caus the stock one does that for me if i push real hard in the middle of two gears.... could you please explain this further? thanks!

I would think the grinding gears scenario is exclusive to only a couple people and is proapbly a coincedence....I used to grind the gears with my stock shifter all the time...have yet to do it in two months with the OBX shifter
