Ok so I've been doing a lot of research on 95 s14 ECUs and I came across a whole mess of conflicting information whether 95 s14s are OBD1 or OBD2 and whether the ECU's are all the same, also had to read through many heated discussions whether they have to be smogged as an OBD2 car or not.
I did a manual swap in my 95 s14 SE pre October production date and need a manual ECU. From what I gathered so far, but am not sure if it's accurate, is that Nissan began to switch to OBD2 on the later production date 95 s14s, but still are smogged as an OBD1. Only the 96s and up have to go through an OBD2 smog inspection. And I'm still not positive on this but I think all 95 ECUs are obd2 and have an OBD2 data link connector but the early production has the data link connector on the passenger side under the stereo unit and the later production has it near the hood latch pull under the drivers side steering wheel.
I found this ECU identification log on the JWT website that states all 95 ECU's are all OBD2. But I need to know if they are all the same so I can purchase any one from that year.

I have to pass California smog and the automatic ECU throws codes for TCC and other sensors that it's missing from the manual swap. I also heard it makes your idle rev up sporadically which I've seen a couple times now. I haven't driven the car yet so I don't know if there's any hesitation with the automatic ECU, I don't see why there would be, but I read some things on drivability problems running the automatic ECU with manual. Again all the information was so conflicting I don't know what's true.

So really all I need to know is if ANY 95 S14 ECU will work for my car regardless whether it's OBD2 or not. I think the ECU harness connectors change from late 96 and up but are all the 95 connectors and the pin outs the same.

P.s. Sorry for the novel

ObdII is SUPPOSED to start in 96, but my 95 has it as well. Sucks. IIRC, my car was built in september of 95.

Never tried swapping ecu's, so I can't help with that. GL.

Yeah that sucks. Is your OBD2 connector on the driver side by the kick panel?

Other information I found:
Manual ECUs have the big 3C sticker
Automatic ECUs have 3D sticker.
Later OBD2 models have char ok cannister by throttle bottle instead of by air box on OBD1(not confirmed)
Automatic and manual speed sensors have different gears and s14 and s13 speed sensors put out different signals so you have to run s14 manual speed sensor only
OBD2 Ka24 have ckp(crankshaft sensor) on back of transmission bell housing but it still using the cam sensor in the distributor as primary engine speed input signal. Some peoe said they unplugged them and had no affect.
All S14 have O2 sensor before and after cat to test cat efficiency. Some said they eliminated 2nd o2 and had no check engine light (not confirmed)

Ya cars are produced the year prior to the model year usually. All 95 model years have OBD 2 but are not required to pass obd2 test only 95 and older test which is usually visual and tail pipe sniffer.
