This isnt a major issue however it does make me worry when i go anywhere because im afraid the car wont start when i come back out. It seems like the car starts right up the first time (usually), I drive wherever, come back to start it and it takes a few tries to finally get it. just the other day i went to my dads and it took probably 20 tries. its an sr20det blacktop. starting the car i always let the fuel pump run till it stops, then turn over the engine so i dont think its a fuel issue.

the previous owner said he put new sparkplugs in but no clue which brand or quality they were. would new spark plugs and coil packs be a good start in diagnosing?

yeah, thats something that would have been quick and easy before making a thread.

pull the plugs out and look at them. you might be running rich, they might be fouled out.

you should also do a boost leak test, and fix any boost leaks before trying to diagnose it.

what else should i look for if it turns out to not be spark plugs?

I wouldn't write off a fuel issue so quick. Like the previous guy said, check the spark plugs and also see if you're getting spark, but also check fuel pressure. Just because your fuel pump is priming, doesn't mean it is getting proper fuel pressure.

Next time this happens, pull one of your spark plugs. If it's wet with gas, then obviously you're not getting spark. If it's dry, fuel. You can then confirm this by using carb cleaner and spraying it directly into the intake manifold. If it starts with dry plugs, fuel issue. If it doesn't, spark. Go from there, don't just throw random parts at the issue.

This is too vague to answer. You need to start at beginning and rule out things to find issue. Start st battery health, the cable health cause a hot cable if bad will have more resistance, do a draw test, starter going bad, if not there then work on spark and fuel. Do you spark plugs get enough power to just the gap to ignite the fuel and air, get a spark tester they are cheap. Check fuel pressure with gauge at regulator for correct reading with a gauge .
