I dont know if you all have seen the drifting el camino or not...
The owner of the El co is a friend of mine.
The driver, Derrick Rogers, is a very close friend.
We've autocrossed together.. basically, we do all track events (mostly autocrosses) together for the last 2 years.
He even dominated the SSM (known as STU class) with his AWD talon for a full year 2 years ago (He's been autocrossing for +5years now).
I'm so happy for him that he can get this far driving that El camino.
I drove that El camino and man, that thing is hard to drive, let alone drifting it.
He also owns a 91 240 hatch.. but he always practices in the El camino.
There's a video on the website above. The bandwith is limited though.. so first come first serve..
Who knows, maybe we will go to cali if we can get some sponsors for the el co.
I remembered the first time that el camino runs on one of our autoX events, people laughed at it. But it made it this far. :)
words from the man himself: http://www.z28evans.com/FormulaDNotes.htm
I saw him in action. Very impressive for such a heavy car. I was pitting for Rotora at the time. All hail the Gush!

It's pretty cool to see a drift car that isn't a 240sx or Corolla (or any import), plus he's ripping the ish up! :coold:
That'd be awesome if your friends get sponsored. I mean, it's a pretty cool car as it is, but with some aftermarket suspension and some glam stuff too like paint and wheels (and tires!) that car would be pimp as hell. Good luck and much props to your buddies. :)

Ugly duckling? Not sure about the duckling part, but it sure is ugly.

it sucks that an el camino is making the toyotas and nissans, etc look like shit.

Thanks guys..
Its great how this el camino participates in almost everything...
Drag = yes (it has nitrous+350+basic mods:cams, header, etc)
Autocross = yes (moderate suspensions, spring shock combo, poly bushings)
Drift = yes (LSD)
Its what we call... a track beater, and it only costs the owner (James), a total of ~2g to build everything including the car.
I guess driver skill makes a whole lot of difference

Why does that suck? That's absolutely AWESOME. It's like, "FUCK ALL YOU, I got this setup and I can still FUCK most of you. SUCK IT MOTHAFUCKAS!!!" Mad props to that guy for showing up with his A game. Of course drifting is all about love and fun but when the comps come, fun takes a backseat and winning is a much higher priority.

yea, that's great! it's always great to see something else other than a 240sx or 86, or even an import for that matter! It's only fitting to see US cars in US competitions, it'll only broaden the sport, getting more people interested, and more events to practice.

suck it dillrod :madfawk:
naw im jp, but seriously, i just don't like the idea of a car in that condition raping all these nicely built and done 240s. Yeah, thats a sad impression of the sport on my part I guess, and i'm sure the guy is a GREAT driver and he has done many of things to that el camino. but in my opinion it makes the texas scene look like a joke. how can a car with ultimate weight distribution, a good powerswap, a handful of assorted pillowball fun parts not beat that goddamn el camino? just....sucks.

I think I know the answer to that....
Driver's skills...
sure we can have fully built 240 with esartweniee and all that.. but if the drivers suck.. we might as well turn that 240 into a show car.
Sure the el camino is not a great platform to start with..
but this car is all DIY.. i mean.. its subrame is not even el camino's anymore..
the steering has been modified to get 20 degrees more angle than stock...
I dont this is a joke at all...
the spectators at formula D loved it.. He even got a new nickname.. they called him "The Local Hero".

I think its cool someone is doing well in something other than the popular cars and its cool hes not a bandwagon jumper and its also super badass that he tries to compete in as many different events as he can.
