Was trying to get a new OEM shifter bushing on today by placing the bushing on some wood and hitting the shifter down into it with a rubber mallet but the bushing shattered and broke apart. Is there a trick to doing this? I've put new oem bushings on aftermarket short shifters before by just putting my body weight into it, and they just popped in, but the stock shifter ball appears to be slighty larger and the same technique isn't working.
Thanks im advance!

Boil (in water) the bushing?
I've always had a problem taking them off without having to break or cut it. But try some grease or oil and use your body weight on it with a block of wood on the bottom. That should work. Order a brass one and you will never have to worry about buying one again. FRSport.com has a circuit sports brass bushing which is a copy of the cusco.

I leaned on it using my weight to press it on. definitely tough to do, hammer will just shatter it.
