This is my first time building an engine. Everyone's gotta start somewhere so please don't say "if you don't know what you're doing then you shouldn't be building". Anyways, questions are: when i change pistons and rods, stock stroke and compression, do I have to do readjustments such as balancing the bottom end. And do I need a thicker head gasket with 256 Degree 11.50mm Lift in/ex cams, and if I do, what thickness?

headgasket thickness depends on how much material has been removed from the deck of the block and head and what compression ratio you want.

just use standard size if you're doing a basic build

thanks, and how about balancing?

you also want to get a headgasket that is .5 bigger than your bore. so if your bore is 86.5mm get a headgasket that is 87mm

its not required. just get your crankshaft polished if its in good shape

blueprinting an engine is a misconception. when you get everything matched together such as the crank polished and the rods machined to match the crank, you are "blueprinting" the engine.

Do you know what blueprinting an engine is? Doesn't sound like it. Balancing the crank is part of it. It's not necessary for a mild build. When you put the pistons in make sure they are in the right direction. And like said above get head gasket according to how much is taken off when decked. I wouldn't go with a bigger bore head gasket though. That just seams to be a good point for carbon to build up.

Also make sure to get the front cover decked with the block if you go with a metal head gasket. It isn't necessary but something that has potential to cause problems.

Hey godsmack scroll down the definitions and then blueprinting and tell me its not exactly what the fuck I said.

That isn't anything like what you said. Blueprinting an engine is basically balancing the internals. Now polishing a crank and machining rods to match crank is not blueprinting. You machine the counterweights on the crank when balancing. I've never machined a rod when blueprinting.

I was kind of suprised that the Wikipedia article was actually decently informative and correct.
