So I have a 92 hatch that I recently picked up and as usual on 240's the bushings are bad making some pretty annoying noises iv allready decided I'm just gonna do aftermarket shocks springs and struts .... I don't want to spend 1000 bucks on coils because it's going to be a daily driver for now. Any advice on brands or any other tastefull mods I can do to the suspension? I want it low but not scrape on every speedbumb and driveway low I mean a little is not a problem but not an everyday thing. Thanks for any help in advance! :D

My two cents are that your selection should really be driven by what you want to use the car for.

KYB-AGX struts are affordable and offer adjustable dampening along with some aftermarket lowering springs that would define just how low you want to be without the coilover overkill. If you go this route, you may want to upgrade your sway bars as well to compensate for the the loss of stiffness if you wanted to make your ride closer to a track feel without the overly stiff ride of a competition type set up.

Lowering springs and good aftermarket shocks are already gonna push you $600-700, so why not save your money and just buy good coilovers now and get it over with.

I like how you said bushings are bad but you're replacing the shocks....

I'd suggest getting coils as well. You can find them for $600-$800 and you'll have adjustable ride height. You don't have to pay to go lower/higher if you ever decided to again. Trust me everyone who owns an s-chassis with lowering spring eventually go coilovers one way or another. I agree with flip but if you really don't wanna spend a little extra you can never go wrong with tokico springs. I bought my first s13 with tokicos and they were pretty nice. Soft in my opinion though. I got a second s13 with teins and they were a lot stiffer and I liked them better. If you're only going to get springs get ones with a high spring rate or you'll hate yourself haha. But seriously go coils if you can. I don't recommend godspeed coils but they're pretty cheap if you're on a budget. I forget whether or not megan racing makes coils but they're pretty good for a budget as well. I am not sure if those brands have camber plates or dampening valve adjustments. Lots of people seem to like d2's but those are a little bit more expensive.

1) do you want ride-height adjustability?
yes) get coils
no) proceed to question 2

2) will you ever want ride-height adjustability?
yes) get coils
no) proceed to question 3

3) are you sure?
yes) get shocks and springs, proceed to question 4
no) get coils

4) remember when you said you never wanted ride-height adjustability?
yes) get coils
no) get coils

Obviously coils would be the better long term option if you would ever want to track your car or be ridiculously low, but otherwise a good spring/strut combo is great for daily driving with just a little bit of added stiffness. I had KYB AGX with Tein springs on an S13 hatch and they were very comfortable and definitely handled better than stock suspension.

As everyone has said, coils are by far the best way to go. But if you're ballin on a budget, KYBs are awesome in the meantime. My car currently has GR-2s up front and AGXs (adjustable dampening) in the back, Eibach springs all around and it handled awesome, not too soft not too stiff. Just my take on it. Like has been said though, all about what you're looking to do with the car.

DAMPING!

DAMPENING IS MAKING SOMETHING WET/MOIST!!! *facepalm*

save your money up, buy stance or fortune autos if you want something more "comfy" and never question your damper/spring setup again.

agx/springs are a waste of money in our cars. for what youre going to pay, spend an additional $400-$500, dont be such a woman and buy a set of good entry level coilovers...otherwise regret your purchase in 6 months when you want your car lower and a firmer ride thru corners that youre NOT going to get out of the agx/spring setup!

just saying...been there, done that, was a waste of money...

I know I'm going against common wisdom here, but your bushings are probably fine, if you don't lower the car and forget to re-set them for your new laden level. Tension rod bushings and subframe bushings are what you should worry about. what makes noise is bad shocks - makes clunking sounds on bumps, and such. And subframe bushings can clunk (but the driveshaft may, before and after, and mess up your guesswork if you haven't heard it both ways). Both of these things can also cause wheel hop (though once you fix it, you may find that you have as much, if not more, it just feels different, with stiffer stuff).

Don't ruin your fine rubber bushings for less adequate ES ones or junk unsafe ebay arms, like half the internet wants you to.

no, its cool. please, keep using a word that has nothing to do with suspension adjustment...

youre absolutely right though, correcting you is totally wrong and i should just let you sound like you know what youre talking about right?

my bad...

While I don't disagree that it seems like the O/P wants coilovers, what I will digress with is the 'waste of time'. A good spring/strut combo on these cars will handle better, and ride better than any of the cheap/entry level junk. But it won't go low...., so even I need to resort to Koopa's response lol.

Get coils. Drove around with KYB GR2's and Tein S techs for almost 2 years. Yes it was lower, yes it handled better than stock blown shit, but I wanted it lower and stiffer pretty much after the first year. Came up on a deal for some decent coils for stupid cheap about 4 months ago, wish I had got them from the start.
