I dunno what is going here but I am having more trouble with the z32 rotor and caliper fitment. If I put the caliper on with pads and tie the caliper bolts, my wheels won't be able to move at all. I brougt the 26mm caliper with the 28mm rotor which suppose to be for the same model. It says 28mm brembo on the side of the rotor so I think it's right? it's either 28 or 30mm rotor for 300zx right? The wheels can be turned(not very loose) if the caliper bolt is not tighten. What is making this strange problem and how do I fit it? BTW, I realize there is a gap between the caliper and where it suppose to mount up to. I am thinking might be that gap when I tight it down, the caliper bents inward locking the pads up. I am probably going to put some rings there to fill the gaps.

There are only two variations of Z32 rotor: 26mm thickness and 30mm thickness. The reason for the 28mm on your rotors is that it is the minimum useable thickness for the 30mm rotors, once they get below 28mm thickness they need to be replaced.

In other words, those aren't the right rotors for your calipers. You'll need to get some 26mm rotors. And just for future reference, Brembo doesn't make 26mm Z32 rotors, only the 30mm version.

there's another problem i ran into on a friends car when i installed his Z brakes. the original caliper bolts are slightly longer than the z caliper bolts and when you tighten them down all the way the bolts hit the rotor. i just put some thick washers under the bolt heads the the problem went away. check that, but it sounds like you have the wrong rotor.

I will repeat what Salty X said and add a bit.

BREMBO NEVER MADE ROTORS FOR THE 26mm BRAKES!

You can find blanks from numerous sources, but they will not be Brembo. I got mine from www.stranoparts.com. They are from some other Asian brand, but I can't remember the name just now. The minimum wear thickness on the 26mm rotors is 24 mm. That's one of the clues that you have the wrong rotors (yours say 28mm min.)

And use the 240sx bolts when you install the calipers...NOT the Z bolts. That's why yours were too long, cdlong.

Damn does this mean I HAVE to get the right rotor? But the wheel still turns(not very easily) if I straigten up the calipers... Damn after all that I still have to buy new rotors =(. The ones I got was from NOPI, they sent me the wrong ones??? I ordered 90 non turbo...

Anyways Does anyone know a good brand caliper rotor other than brembo? ANd maybe A place that I can order. I am a loyal buyer of brembo but now since they don't make 26mm rotors that means I need some other ones :hammer: Someone help. I need some rotors fast!!

www.stranoparts.com like I already said.

NOPI doesn't know shit. Send them back. They sent you rotors for the Non-Turbo AFTER 6/90. The rotors you are looking for only came on Z32s for about 8 months. They are not common for that reason. That's also why Brembo didn't bother making them. I bought the brand that Strano Parts carries because they sell top notch products and I feel I can trust them. I will be putting them on the car very soon (need some free time).

Eric

p.s. yes you HAVE to buy the right rotors. Yours are 4mm too wide. That's a LOT. Don't go to all the trouble to convert your brakes and then cheap out and jimmy rig the *wrong* rotors. Get the right ones and get stoppin' :)

It would be best to get new rotors. Heavy Throttle sells them and you can get them predrilled for 4-lug. Theirs are made by Bradi, which from my understanding is an offshoot company of Brembo. I have them, they're really nice rotors. You can order them without the slots or crossdrilling, like I did (wanted slots only), but just as a forewarning, mine came slotted and crossdrilled. I'm not sure if that happens a lot or if it was just a weird mistake, but I thought I'd mention it...

Yea I called heavythrottle. They say it will take 2 week to "special order". Yea for NOPI, that mistake killed me. I can't return them too cause it has been redrilled to 4 lugs or can I? This is obvious their(NOPI's) mistake to send me the wrong rotor after I specially ordered the 90 NON-turbo... If NOPI doesn't take it back I will just give this to my friend AL for free if he ever wants a z32 front brake conversion. :smash:

Bah. You can sell them. I'd call and bitch at NOPI and check if you can return. Say something along the lines of "I needed to redrill them to place them on the spindle, so my caliper could go on. It didn't. Because you sent me the wrong rotors. If you don't take these redrilled rotors back, I know 20,000 people on a forum I visit that will never buy from NOPI again!"
Your first mistake was going through NOPI. Terribly expensive. And you don't HAVE to replace the rotors. You can sand down $80 worth of brakepads to mate with $100 rotors. I wouldn't though.

Hey man have you checked out eBay? I just bought a complete set(all four rotors)of 300zx cross-drilled slotted rotors, zinc coated for 130.00 bucks!!

They're a no name brand, or at least they came in a white unmarked box. But when I matched them up to my Brembo blanks and compared, they are identical even down to the drill holes accuracy. I just put the fronts on last night and they work great so far. I have them matched up with Hawk pads.
So my recommendation is check out ebay.

Oh and yeah try to sell them here on the forum.

BTW I'm selling my slightly used 30mm brembo blanks if anyone's interested. 80 shipped. I put about 3000 miles on them, will get pics soon. pm me if interested.

A similar thing happened to me. Heavy Throttle gets their rotors from iRotors, and when I ordered a set from them (iRotors) they showed up the wrong size (30mm instead of 26mm) and with a whole hell of a lot more holes in them than I asked for. After a couple of phone calls they rushed a set of 26mm slotted 4-lug rotors out, and all was right with the world.

BTW, I noticed the Bradi part number for the 30mm rotors has a 26 in it. Dunno if that accounts for mistakes, but it can't help.

iRotors is the greatest rotor site in my opinion. A+!
