So I finally blew my Ca this week, pretty sure I bent a rod, and I have a few options I need to figure out, I'm not hp crazy I'd be happy chillin at 300-350, mainly lookin for reliability cause I'll probly be dailying it and the most cost effective way because funds are low :/
Option 1: Rebuild the Ca
So if I do this I plan on going the whole 9yards and doing a full rebuild, pistons, rods, bearings, gaskets, probly even new wiring cause mine is pretty shabby, but I'm hoping my block isn't scored to bad, it was knocking pretty hard. Basically I'm probly spending 1400-1800 on parts alone, then I need the block machined and all that, idk if it's worth it for the Ca, even rebuilt.
Option 2: 1Jz :)
So I've always wanted a 1J and I came across a vvti single turbo with tranny, harness and ecu, plus an aluminum radiator and vlsd for my car for just over 2k I have a friend with a fab shop to help me, but I'm not sure about how much extra cost it will be to get it in, and at that point is it still more reliable than a fully rebuilt Ca? It is still a used motor...

The benefits of going 2J is it should get rid of most my other problems, my Ca runs hot on the highway, probly need aluminum radiator for it, and pretty sure the syncros are gone cause I can't shift fast when racing, cause it blocks me out till my rpms drop a little, and, I finally get a lsd diff

So just looking for some input, any is appreciated, thanks guys

JZ swap you're looking at smaller fans, clutch, mounts, driveshaft, wiring, downpipe, crossover pipe, fuel lines, possibly powersteering lines, upgrading the fuel pump, radiator hoses, and tons of other little things.

2k for the motorset probably 4-6k in parts needed to get it settled. Why not buy another CA for 1,500ish and put it in there?

Would you Possibly consider dropping in a turbo charged dual cam ka? A good N/a motor with a welded diff Already pulls hard, putting on a t3 turbo you can get the power you need for less $$$$. Just be sure to start off with a good running motor and you won't have any issues. Other than that I'd go with the ca cause I like the idea of getting a lot of power out of 4 cylinders. XD

the ca is a joke of a motor and building one is just asinine IMHO. if your looking to save money just throw a turbo KA in there, or spend a little more and throw an SR in there, either way its cheaper than a jz swap and still very reliable at that hp level and very easy to build. jz swaps are cool but its not worth the money unless your planning to make more hp... just my 2 cents, but do what you want its your car...
