why are you trying to pick one of those over a gm ls swap?

1UZ would be easier. but VH45 is more powerful.. and the VH45 power isnt all that great really. not as a fast as a 12 psi KA-T

Maybe because either of those are cheaper than a gm ls swap? At least the VH is...full engine from the junkyard fully functioning for less than $300? Not bad.
Anyways, since you're asking, my suggestion is to go VH :D watch and listen (my buddy's VH):

I think the question I would be asking is "Why should I pick an VH45 or 1UZ over and LSx?" Yeah, they may be cheaper, but the LSx series has waaaay more displacement, makes more power and is much smaller/lighter than either of those DOHC motors. I think the VH45 is a pretty damn cool motor, but it's underwhelming in comparison to the LSx. I can't think of anything nice to say about the 1UZ though. I'm a purist & I generally don't like V8 swaps, but if you're gonna do one, don't start off by picking an inferior motor just because it's "JDM".

well, the engine is the cheap part.
Tranmission adapter, Mounts, driveshaft, headers, new smaller diameter brake booster, replacement gaskets, new accessories, alternator relocation bracket, power steering pump pulley, z32 TT flywheel / clutch, shifter relocation bracket... all that shit adds up to over a couple grand pretty quick.
I had over 6k in my swap, and it was basically stock with top end rebuilt plus headers.
granted everything i had was either top of the line, or brand new OEM
you can do a LS1 swap for about the same price as a VH IMO..
unless you are capable of fabricating every single component of the swap by yourself.

and to be clear, the VH45 is about as JDM as uncle bens rice.

VH45 will cost about what a ls swap would. The only real expensive part about LS is the manual transmission and shit associated with it.
1UZ is a pretty cheap swap to do, I'm currently in the process. If you don't know your wiring you're probably going to want to have someone else do it. I'm getting it because it's gonna cost about the same as a sr+bolt ons and I wont have to tune it. + They typically run for 250-300k miles. If you do decide to go FI for the motor, they come with forged internals and have been known to make 575ish whp on a stock block. But you're looking at going to a standalone and tuning. Probably throwing all that awesome reliability out the window.
VH45 sticks out the hood and is an eyesore, but otherwise I would have went with it... simply for the additional power.

1uz and then supercharge it, id go 1uz cuz theres a good aftermarket for it thanks to Australia and also its super easy to swap (you can bolt up to ka tranny with plate) and motors are cheap and solid also they are used as race engines by many people. If you want more info check out lextreme.com

I'm sorry, maybe I'm confused... How do you define "JDM?" I define it as meaning Japanese Domestic Market, meaning it was built & marketed to the Japanese consumer. The VH45 powered the Nissan President before it was imported to us as the Q45. Why would the VH45 not be JDM?

On a sidenote: a Japanese 4.5L V8 that made 280whp (because everybody knows these engine were underrated) back in '89/'90 was pretty damn impressive. But times have changed now and Chevy has refined the V8 formula to near perfection.

thanx for all the feedback... ya seems so hard to pick between both of them. i was thinking of doing a LS1 swap but i just dont know what kind of transmission to go with and it seems that ls1 cost bout 2000 dollars or more. i can find a 1uzfe or vh45de any junkyard for 300 dollars or so.

^^^Hey man, if you wanna do it, then do it. Yes, the LSx has loads more performance potential. But do I think GSRacer gave any fucks about that when he built his supercharged VH45 S14? Hell no. Thing sounded sexy as hell and went like stink. But I just like you might be underestimating the cost to get the project running in comparison to an LSx swap which has had more developement dollars put into it for our cars. It'll be close enough that you might as well have gone with the lighter/more powerful engine.

I really despise the fact that anytime a VH or 1UZ is discussed, somebody always feels the need to explain why the LSx is the better route to go.
I checked, and the title of the thread wasn't vh45 vs 1uz vs ls1.

The vh45 is not cheap by any means. I have an ls now and had a vh before. My vh swap was a little over 6k when it was all said and done. And once my vh let go which wasn't very long the cost to rebuild it was ridiculous not mention finding a machine shop to sign up to work on it. The 1uz makes no sense to me whatsoever but to each their own.

im also debating on picking up the VH motor but it sounds like the LS is the better route to go? but my friend is doing the LS on his and he's about 8k into the swap so far. gsracer's has a pretty badass setup which is why i wanted to do it. 430whp isn't that bad either.
