View Full Version : WARNING: FAKE EBAY Rx-7 AUCTION
*NismoS13*
06-12-2004, 12:03 AM
Hey Everybody-
To make a long story short, my best friend owned a black R2 until about 5 days ago when he sold it for close to 20k. Tonight, he found it for sale on ebay for the low price of 2,025 dollars from the owner who claims to be from France.
This auction is a scam.
This person stole pictures taken by my best friend and even used his information on the car as if it were his. This person knows nothing about the car and even put incorrect information about it in the listing.
I urge you to post this in every forum you know. Think about it: You could be saving an innocent person a great amount of money and we, the honest people can get over on this liar who's attempting this scam.
Thanks for your time.

WRONG.
The car is a 5 speed manuel. The guys lists is as an auto, he obviously knows nothing about this car, being that he doesn't own it. If you look at the pics, you can clearly see its stick.
I hope word of this gets around quick enough to save somebody some money...

Yes.
E-bay has been e-mailed.
Everybody who bidded has been e-mailed.
And the new, current owner has been e-mailed.

It's nice to see people willing to help others out, although in honesty, who the fuck would bid on any auction by a guy selling 3 cars (2 of which are incredibly high-end machines, worth at least $20,000/$50,000 respectively) who joined 2 days ago, has zero feeback, and mysteriously starts selling 3 cars.

why not email the seller and tell him he has been reported and such...like threaten him...most of the time they end the auction and run.

I almost got ripped off by the same type of scam, but I was selling rims for a friend. I sold the to this "guy" on craigslist and he sent me a cashiers check for like twice what I asked. Said it was for "shipping" and to send him the excess. I left it in the bank to clear luckley, even though I could have taken it out at any time. the check didnt clear and I lost my account because the bank closed the account. The guy said he lived in the UK. If you hear anything like this DONT REPLY. Its a scam. I got luckey, but some others my not. Just my expirence.

i sent this guy a question about the car, just to fuck around. This is the reply i got(almost immediately)
"Hi,
The car is in perfect conditions without any scratches or other mechanical problems.
I will pay the shipping cost and you will pay the money transfer comision.I live in FRANCE.The car has a Clear Title wich you will receive it with the car.It can be registerd into your name. You will get all the papers and recipts that you need for the registration.I will ship the car via Lufthansa Airplane Cargo.I bought this car from US but when i tried to register the car in my country they said that i can't register a car that has US emissions.I sell it so cheap because i can't find a buyer in my country.I want to sell it in US because the car is titled there and it can be easy register in any state from United States.I hope you understand this situation. So if you really want it please give me an email as soon as possible.
Thank you!"

WOW,another email from him, just minutes after i replyed to him:
"Hi,
The payment must be done using a wire transfer service.I prefer wire transfer because
in this way i will ship the car in the same day you make the payment. You will arrange payment through Western Union .I will pay the shipping cost and you will pay only the money transfer comision from western union.Money transfer comision from western union is approx.300 USD.As soon as the payment will be confirmed and the money properly sent,i will IMMEDIATELY proceed with shipping.I will ship the car via Lufthansa Airplane Cargo insured and It will take 7 days until you will have it at your door or you can pick up the car in 5 days from airport in your town. I live in Paris.
Thank You!
Johnny wrote(my reply to his previous email):
yes im very interested,i got the money and willing to pay you thrue money transfer. How much would be the shipping though?Where in france are you exactly?Thanx,
Jhonny"
LOL,i havent replyed to him yet,but its an obvious scam, too bad some people beleive fuckers like him:(

OF COURSE HE WANTS WESTERN UNION! Western Union has, and never has had any fraud protection. This guy is SO obviously an archtypical scammer. I can't believe this dude is dumb enough to think this shit will fucking work. I figured he'd do something like request Western Union or a "legitimate" escrow service that only he knew about.

You are not allowed to list a car as being in the US when you claim it's in france. Also, Wire Transfers are not alowed under Ebay rules. So, If anyone demands one you can have the auction nullified.

Thanks guys for all your positive input. I try to stick to the "treat people how you want to be treated" way of life, and when we noticed this scam I thought I'd try to do something about it. Hopefully it works and nobody loses money.
I have posted this in about 5-7 different forums and everybody is chipping in to help out which is awesome. And the e-mails everybody is sending him are halarious :)
As to the question about the linked pics, they were changed last night. However, it takes some time for them to update apparently. I've already noticed that 2 of them don't work anymore so far.
Again, thanks guys :)

I remember a while ago I emailed a guy on yahoo automotive about an S14 and it was like an automated response telling me the exact same thing that Zanos got but just the blanks were filled in with different things like a different place, and a different car. I laughed and emailed it back and told them to f*** off. Haha Scam the scammer P-P-P-Powerbook style.
