After selling my daily driver sleeper KA-T coupe and built S14 SR20 motor, I think it's time to build another decent DD car that's different and still within reasonable budget. I've done few SR20DET and I've always wanted to build an SR20VET but back then all info you have available for the most part are coming from Mazworx and others basically selling you nice bolt on kits for a price. Don't get me wrong they are nice parts and well worth the asking price. But I intend to build my whole built SR20VET longblock for the price of what a fancy intake and turbo manifold.

** Parts list will be updated..**
Objective of the build which is obvious given the parts list is to be a budget build. Also find ways to cut cost where you can..

Where did you get the P11 head from and what are everyone's thoughts on best way to purchase? Is it worth getting a SR20VE longblock from an engine importer and then parting out the block and other unused bits?

its pretty easy to source a p11 head. most people just buy a complete p11 engine (they run $800-1k, depending on if it comes with trans or now) and then just pull the head off. the block is pretty much useless for us unless you were planning to stay NA (see matej)

I just happen to score the P11 top end for less and not have to buy the whole longblock.

Ordered this water neck adapter from FRSport. Not a bad way to add port and be able to support one of the stock SR neck bolt location..

How much did those pistons run? I have cp's for mine but only at 9.1. Got a great deal from Wayne @ phase2 a while back. Think it was around 450 with the upgraded wrist pins.

I was going to do the same. But given the price and the discount code I received from FRSport it just made sense to do it. It provides function for the extra port and the extra support for the neck.

Probe Industries actually discontinued their Import line of pistons so I bought all the remaining SR20 pistons they got both low and high CR. I've sold most of them already here and kept a few for myself. I got them for 150 a set but I did pickup bunch of them.

Which cam sensor are you using? I'm using 92 maxima Se cam sensor. It was $62 from a local import parts store. Would you be willing to sell your dual solenoid Vvl housing?

I'm using the 20V Cam sensor which I got a decent deal. I was initially looking in the modified Maxima CAS but the expense in machining made me just go to the simpler route. As for the dual solenoid solenoids I traded that for the single I currently have.

Not quite dead.. I don't have the chassis yet for the build but I atleast plan on completing the longblock. Had some free time from school during holiday season so was able to put some work to get the longblock put together.
I did get some additional parts. Nothing crazy..
Finally got the Mazworx oil pickup and Taarks timing pin relocation.

The SR Block just came back from machining as well. The shop said it was just cheaper to use the plug then than weld/shut or threading it. Should get the crank and bearing ready by next week.

Since this is a low budget build in comparison to most VE-T builds many of the parts here will be reused atleast during the initial stages. Besides its easy to upgrade to intake manifold or turbo setup in the future should we get power hungry. For now target goal is for a Clean OEM look SR20VET hopefully producing power at around 350whp.
- Turbo setup with be a T2 bottom mount using the Greddy turbo I already have and stock SR cast manifold and headshield.
- Intake manifold is using an S14/S15 Intake manifold flanges trimmed/grinded and will be welded on to an SR20VE Intake flange.

I'm sure I will be limiting the capability of the VE head going this route but this really is just the initial stage. I still have the option of reusing the stock VE manifold and Excessive Manufacturing manifold I got for cheap. I will just the setup perhaps as a baseline.

Put together a basic DIY Pre-Oiler / Pre-Lube Engine Oiler. It's always best to prime the oil before starting a newly built motor. I was able to put this together relative cheap since most of the parts I already have around the garage.

You can build something similar using Harbor Freight parts for less than $40-50. Nice insurance.

I find this really interesting as I was aiming to do the same thing a few years ago, but broke the car before I had all the parts :(
I was wondering why you were going to go for such high CR pistons? I did a lot of research into this and decided to go for 9:0:1 for 'reliability' - but never got round to buying the pistons.
Mine got this far, would have been a 22VET as I was going for 90mm pistons and had a 91mm stroker crank (I had darton sleeves too ofc!)

I've done some HC SR/KA builds and loved the increase of power all over the RPM range so it was natural for me to make this similar. Main disadvantage will be stuck at E85 or some water spray solution later.

Yeah I was going to say, I spoke a lot to a friend who knows a hell of a lot about anything to do with engines and he explained to me how if I went for 9:0:1 it would be a better all rounder. He said how the D1 cars run very high compression ratio but they're only used for short burts during runs and they're maintained meticulously too. I was going for a street build.
Best of luck with the build dude! It's something I definitely want to do again one day. Have you seen the Bai-West 180sx on speedhunters currently? 750ps SR22VET!
