Rb20 is half the price of the Rb25 and not to much weaker than it.. about 40hp

Its half a price because nobody wants them. RB20s are the throwaway engine choice in Japan. If you want a 2.0 liter engine, might as well go SR since itll be cheaper to install and have more support.

^^ Yep, they are garbage over here. I was gonna put one in my S13 drift car (PO took engine) just cuz ppl just about gives them away, so when it blows up no biggie.

Chance are whatever RB20 (if you decide to get one still) you get you should rebuild it anyway cuz its probably been beaten the shit out of. Especially if a military kid owned it.

I do plan on rebuilding the one I have and if I wanted a 4 cylinder, I would have stuck with a KA-T. the potential for the RB looks better than that of an SR imo. if this engine gives out on me, I'll either go LSX or RB26..

Rb20 is a awesome motor. I won't mind owning one. Very robust engine. Very effective till around 400 hp

Why are people so hard headed?

"IMO"... but your opinion is based off what? Zero experience. You can't even install it yourself.

Everyone telling you that it's a waste of money has experience. Yeah it's cheaper.. initially. Until it nickles and dimes you to death to make up strength/power difference. So in the end you end up paying just as much for it if not more when you could have skipped the bullshit and gone with an RB25 or RB26.

I have moved this thread to the regional section... where it belongs!

Also, dont waste your money on an RB20. Save your cash, do it right and either get an RB25 or SR20. Just because its cheaper doesnt mean it will be better in the long run. RB20s are very old motors, and much like the CA18, require quite a bit of work to clean up and get running in tip top shape... where as finding a good condition strong running SR or RB25 is fairly simple.

Stop being cheap and just do it right the first time!

I can install it myself, I was just being lazy.. I am going to build the rb20 so lets leave it at that. when I want a different motor, I'll get one. chances are it'll either me an lsX or rb26. but it is my money and ultimately my decision. I was just asking for a little help, so thanx

thanx for putting this in the right place, but I don't like the sr and I'd rather do the rb20, idk about the nickel and diming, I just want something to have a lil fun with and the sr wont cut it

Just say you want a "Skyline" motor in your car for mad JDM tYte points. Must really stroke your ego when you pop your hood at some ricer meet and some dumb Honda kid(s) ask you what it is and you tell them it's a "Skyline motor" and they're blown away due to their ignorance that it's a motor from a Japanese Taxi cab.

You're like those girls (and guys) who buy a used BMW with 200k miles off a small used car lot just so you can say you have a BMW.

Guy makes a "rb20 vs sr20" thread, everyone starts shitting and trolling him and thread gets locked by a super mod. Guy makes a "recommend me a shop for a swap", everyone starts giving him suggestions on which motor is better than the one he's already chosen and give him actual advise, even the mods...
You all are hilarious... he's already made up his mind, just recommend him a damn shop, which nowadays is really hard to find a decent and honest one...

I honestly was going to go ka-t, but I came across the rb20 and yea there is a bit of the "I have a skyline motor" factor, but it isn't for everyone to envy, as a matter of fact if anyone asks, I'll tell them it's a stock motor, and I want something a bit easier than an sr to work with.. but like the thread implied, I was just looking for a decent shop and no longer need this thread to be open to be honest, I didn't ask what motor I should put in my car. But I might as well just put a viper motor because it's a v10 with all of you guys' logic

I had a friend that had a rb20 in his s13, guess what he did, went back to his ka-t. Even a na 2j would be an upgrade.from someone that's been there done that, it really is a waste of money in terms of performance.

to be honest, SRs are like the easiest motor on the planet to work with until you start getting into the 500-600hp range... but all 4 cylinders get bitchy around that point.
