View Full Version : VH no start - can't get timing set?

For some reason my VH won't start. I think it's the timing. I borrowed a timing light and tried it but it seems to be all over the place.

I followed this tutorial: (Method B)

http://q45.org/checktiming.html

The 15*BTDC timing mark (far left one, correct???? See picture in link) isn't ever in the same spot repeatedly when the light goes off (not turning over fast enough?) My battery was getting real low at the end but the whole time was pretty much the same story. But it's like, one flash, I don't even see the timing indicator on the crank pulley, next flash it's about an inch behind the timing mark on the block, next 3 flashes I don't see it. Next flash it's 1/4 inch before the mark, etc.... Is it because my battery is low that I can't get a good reading or what?

Edit: So I just realized that the 15* mark is actually the mark that's three from the right on the pulley, not the far left one...that would definitely make a difference.
