Hey guys, I am new to the forum, but I was wondering...What would i put in the back seat to cover up the hole to the trunk after i remove the back seats. I drive a s14 and i want to lighten up my car a little but I really dont want the hole there so, you guys got any ideas? Thanks

The seats really don't weigh that much. The car will look ghetto W/O them unless you fill everything back in, which would eleminate the weight savings. I've seen good looking setups that replace the seats with heavy stereo equipment. Some light weight ideas would be to cover the hole W/ plexiglass or sheet metal and then paint all the exposed areas to match your interior. You could also cover the area W/ carpet or vinal. The airbag module is under the seats so you'll want to remove it or cover it up. A nice custom figerglass or CF seat replacement would be really cool. The bottom could have consoles for stuff. Hmm I'm starting to like that idea for my S14. I only like clean mods that looks like the car came that way from the factory.

The backrest is the bulk of the weight of the seat. In my S13, when the roll bar goes in, I'm going to remove the backrest but leave the bottom cushion in so the floor is still covered. The trunk pass-through is then left open, but I don't mind that. If that bothers you... leave it in. If you made a piece of fiberglass to fit and carpeted it, it wouldn't be that much lighter.
The backrest in my fastback was pretty heavy. A good 15-20 pounds.

i think i'm just going to cover the hole with plexiglass. i hate trunk noise, so i have to have it covered
i tried to take out my backseats yesterday....and yeah that didnt go too good...

I've been driving nothing but hatchbacks for years, so I'm used to noise from the back of the car. I understand though. Knowing the weight of a big sheet of plexi, I would just leave your rear seat in...
Turk, what went wrong? There should be two tabs along the front of the bottom cushion, pull those and it pops right out. Then once the bottom cushion is out, remove the four bolts holding up the backrest. It seriously takes 5 minutes.
