As some of you know, i was trying to sell my car. Well, I sold my car On May 29th to some guy named Noah RIley from Omaha, Nebraska. He got my information off of autotrader, and we emailed one another, and we met on Saturday the 29th at the Galleria Parking lot (St. Louis, MO...my hometown). He gave me what appeared to be an official notarized bank check (had the watermark and microprint, my bank told me to look for these). I deposited it on this past tuesday because of the labor day weekend and banks being closed. I go to my bank today to withdraw the money so i could buy a friend of mines car.....and i find out theres a hold on that cash....only to find out a few minutes later that the check has been found to be counterfeit......
So....long story short. . . .some dude named Noah (probably not his real name) stole my car by deceit, and now i'm out $13,000. I made a police report, my bank is investigating it.....the only shred of hope i have is i have the "check", and the bill of sale with this piece of garbage's prints on it, and he also made a phone call from my cell phone that saturday (so i have a number). I also extracted his IP address from his emails and found out he's really from Kansas city, MO (or around that general area).
Sorry for the long story. . . . .had to get it out because i dont think i've ever been so angry/frustrated in my life. If any of you guys see it around, or see its parts for sale, could you let me know? I'd be in your debt. Heres the autotrader link with pictures and all the info. Autotrader Ad of my car (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=163425782&dealer_id=&car_year=1995&make=NISSAN&distance=any&max_price=&model=240SX&advcd_on=n&end_year=2005&min_price=&certified=n&address=63139&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1995&color=&cardist=0)
Thanks again all.
wow... i'm sorry for your loss. :(

The fact that my has point five O written on it , and yours is stamped replica, should pracipitate your balls into shrinking...
This is what I would do, wether he has a replica or not.

Damn that sucks, is 13 grand too much to ask for in cash? I've never bought a car that cost that much.

06-09-2004, 10:19 PM
It didnt even occur to me to ask for the 13k in cash......who knows, if i woulda asked for it he coulda just handed me a briefcase full of cash and shot me or something. His IP address was traced to two places (he had two IP's actually) one to kansas city, MO, and the other one to independance, MO. The phone number he dialed ended up being a Home Depot in Lee's Summit, MO. So who knows what will happen.....I personally think its been chopped and parted out. =\ Thanks for the support everyone.
yeswepromise----wasnt playing the race card, just saying it for mere descriptive purposes....didnt mean to offend.

How was the title/tag transfered?
importnut1212
06-09-2004, 10:25 PM
Grant----Like i said it was merely for descriptive reasons, i removed it anyhow.
S14DB----i signed the back of the title over to him. The title, vin # and everything is listed as stolen now, so he cant register it without a red flag going off.

well what if one of us comes across a white or asian guy who says he's noah riley who wants to buy a car... then we'll know this isn't him.
just part of the description
edit: some more posts popped up while i was typing this.
anyhow, yeah don't take anything but cash, and even then, get one of those pens that writes invisible on money but black on any other kind of paper

Snatch...great movie:)
on topic: this is a really shitty situation. im sure everything will work out for the best in the end. hopefully this guy will get what's coming to him.
Not to be an asshole or anything but even my fucking paychecks from my job don't clear until the next day. It didn't occur to you to wait until the check cleared to hand over the title? But then again what I'm saying wouldn't make any sense because he basically stole the car right out from under your nose.

:werd: you should have let the check clear
I hate to hear about your loss. If I sold my car, I'd never sell it to someone who didn't offer me cash. It's just too risky to accept a check. What if it bounced? $13,000 is a lot of money, and some people might not have that much in their account, you know? I hope you find the bastard. Keep us updated

Well, it was a cashiers check, so there isnt an account behind it....well, at least not a personal account. It would have taken 4 days to allow the check to clear.....I deposited the check on tuesday and didnt find out until friday that it was bogus. What I should have done is ask for the guys ID and made a copy of it. Oh well......shows that i get for being a trusting person =\

Wow that really sucks, I don't know what to say I wish I lived near MO so I could keep an eye out for it but like you said probably being parted out, keep an eye on the forums for your parts and stuff man. Sorry to hear about the loss. I am selling my car right now and now I am scared :(

that really sucks man, I'm actually in the process of being screwed on a car right now, but only $200.....damn ebay motors, good thing I didn't send the rest. I would of checked an ID on the person first just because it's a lot of money. If I see a car like that rolling around here I'll take a plate number for you.

sorry to hear Alex.. your S14 was very nice. I hate it when bad things happen to good S14s.
I hate car thieves! They should have their genitals chopped off with a pair of rusted sissors.

In the future, call the bank on the check that issued it and verify that it is legit, or has funds available to pay it.

wow....I'm really sorry about this. I also had something simliar to this happen to me...except I never saw the person face-to-face. The first thing I did was take the check to the bank to verify it. Apparently the guy knew how long it takes for a cashier's check to "clear" and made sure to run away before it happens. I really hope you find this ass...he can't get far with the car in terms of registering. For future reference try to gather as much information you can.....even make up a invoice requiring the person to print and sign their name....I photo of the ID is a good idea also.

i doubt he's going to bother trying to register the car... most likely many of the parts are up for grabs already.
sorry to hear about your loss... i hope they catch him.
