Hi everyone. Eric here... I've been on the forum for about 2 years now. Haven't really posted much cause I didn't think I had much to contribute... But I have learned a great deal from the site. Thanks to everyone who's made this site a great resource...

Now to my scenario. Some of you may already know it, but I got my 240 last year, Sept. By EBay of all places, and I had to go all the way to New Jersey to get it... I'm in Minneapolis, MN. WWW.DriftUnderground.Com just in case anyone else is in the upper midwest...

The car is just a base model, 1998, 74k miles when I got it... How you see the car is how it is and have not changed it yet, just bought a house. But I need to in the next few weeks... The guy who had my car before did not take too good a care of it.

I got plans for this lady, but it's pretty timid right now. Just ingen intake, borla exhaust, tokiko shocks, and eibach springs. I guess the guy thought the white paint and the GTR emblem looked good. I just haven't had enough time yet to take care of things yet...

First off though, I had to use the car during winter. And winter here in Minnesota means snow. So I got a pair of snow tires. Yoko Guardex. Since I have a base, I only have the 4 lugs. My pads a wearing down as well. I can hear them squeek. So I'm figuring that I should do the 5 lug conversion and break upgrade all at once. I want to do this in the next few weeks if I can. Problem is, I'm not exactly sure... Anyone in the Twin Cities area willing to help. I suppose, if worse comes to worse, I can take it to SRD Form & Function in Plymouth... But I think, with some help, I could do this myself...

Here's some pics of my car as is... I have no idea on wheels, tires or offsets yet. I wonder if it's best to just go to the dealer and get some parts for the upgrade/swap or dig around in a junk yard...???

This may help others as well... I just took these pictures this afternoon...

The ugly interior. I plan to replace the damaged trim and overlay with carbon fiber...

The front fender. You can see that it's a 4 lug and wheels are so small...

Have winter tires. Yoko Guardex's... Need to be changed. They ain't gonna last long in 80 degree weather...

Agreed. The GTR emblem and the painted trim has to go. Otherwise, its not a bad car at all. Base models rock.

I'd go to the dealer and get the s14 se 5lugs hubs because you might end up with fucked up wheel bearings when buying used junkjyard hubs. It cost about the same to buy a new hub than just to replace the wheel bearings. You also need to get abs front hubs if your car has abs. That's great first tip heh. As far as wheels are concerned maybe you can just get some used SE wheels for like 200 bucks or less until you save up for the wheels that you really want.

I'm doing my five lug swap as soon as I get paid so I can get tires for my dt-05r's heh... I have all the shit sitting on my other crashed s14 sitting on the side of my house haha :(

Hay there Zemus...

I actually just registerd with DU tonight... you were the one who gave me the name of Bryon over at SRD...

Maybe someone over at DU will lend a hand or be able to help out...

But yea, first step is wheel's and breaks. Will tackle the engine a bit later.

The last meet you had, a month ago, was right when I just got my house... If you do another meet later in the summer, I'll definately be there...

now this is the quality posting i like to see. your car rocks (that is sans the GT-R) and i'm sure somebody will help you out. swaping the front hubs is cake, it's the rears that i'm unfamiliar with and i hear can be kinda tricky (bearing puller or sumthin?). i'd say it's very do-able if ya take your time and can follow instructions/have the right tools.

good luck mang.

p.s. i don't usually like S14's but i got a soft spot for koukis

it's easy..both front and rears are cake...fronts take 15min max a side...rears maybe 30min a side...

I've got the base model 97. I did the z32 brake upgrade (Drilled rotors) and got myself some nice wheels that sport 235. As long as offset is concerned, I went with H&R spacers 15mm front (thats the max otherwise prepare yourself for bent fenders) and 20mm (I could've went 25mm, but just to be safe). Mine's llike your, not so good from previous owner, and got a condo to pay, doesn't leave much for mods!

If you decide not to go to the dealer for the five lugs hubs, I would suggest www.car-parts.com

I got my all four of my 5 lug hubs for under $200 shipped. I got S14 SE fronts, and Z32 NA rears.

As far as the ABS and NON-ABS thing goes, I got one S14 five lug hub with out the ABS bearing. Instead of buying another one, I had the ABS bearing off my Four lug hub pressed out and had it pressed into the NON ABS five lugger. Works like a charm.

Good Luck with your upgrade. By the way, since your car was in NJ and now is in MN, Im sure some of the bolts are rusted... Do yourself a favor and soak everything down with some heavy duty rust penetrator. It will make the job muuuuch easier.

Hawd,

when taking out the huge ass nut in the rear....the one that takes 400ftlbs of torque.....

use a jack to jack the end of hte wrench up. Guaranteed to brake it loose. That is what I did for mine and it worked great.

Good luck.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA..... OMG.... haha... I am sorry for you, I really do feel your pain. Its hilarious because I bought my car just like that also... the previous dude decided it would be cool to paint all the interior trim white, put weird mexican stickers on the car, and put on some ghetto chrome fender trim. Haha i'm glad to see i'm not the only one. anyways GOODLUCK WITH THE CAR!!

the only bitch bolts are those behind the rear hub..there are 4..they are a bit tough to get to...make sure your axle can be spun (this means having both sides off the ground if you have LSD)..this makes it easier to get the bolts in a position to remove them more easily as you can use the cut outs in the axle to get the socket in there...

secondly the rear hub will most likely not want to come off even after the bolts are removed...use a sharp object (flathead screwdriver, chisel, etc) and pound it inbetween the hub and the dust guard and pry it off...should take some elbow grease but it will come off...

unless of course you have a hub puller...lol...

Snow and open diff dont like each other. Try to get a stock LSD if you can too when you do the 5 lug swap.
