Wow, where to begin. I have problems out the you know what with my car right now. I need your peoples opinions and help.

Two days ago my car wouldn't start. It acted an sounded like my battery died, which happened back in March of this year. I thought it was no big problem and I would have it fixed in the morning. I take the battery into CarQuest and they test it and they said it was at full power. Now here is the problem. About the beginning of the year I found out that a long bolt holding the alternator onto my engine was hanging out, about 2 inches away from my fan. To be more specific it is the bottom bolt, closest to the ground. It is about 2-3inches long. So I get underneath my car, with a little strength, puch the bolt back in where it is supposed to be. Two weeks later, it's back out. So I have fixed this bolt about 3 times and evertime it has come back out.

My question is, do you all this that the alternator is done for? I thought that it may be wearing out the battery, but since the battery is still at full power, that can't be the problem. Or is it the starter? Is my starter shot?

What should I do? Anyone have any ideas what the problem is? I'm using my dad's truck because my car is unstartable.

More problems consist of...
Bad oil leak
Squeaky belts
Alternator/Starter???? <------Important
Clanging noise in right front wheel well/engine
Grinding noise in rear when in reverse
Air that only works on (4)
Tint coming off rear window
Lights don't show up on middle dash
Lighter thingy doesn't work
Dents all over my car

It doesn't end!! Fellow 240 owners what to do?! Please help. You don't have to diagnose the problem for me just what would you do? Should I take it to Nissan or some little hole in the wall auto repair? I have friends that could help me but I want to make sure it is done right? Please help. Thanks so much. I owe anyone who helps me out big time.

lol... ur problems aren't that bad. ok here we go...

my guess on the battery is that the wire from the positive battery terminal is corroded... try having someone jostle the wire around while you try to start the car. b/c that is what happened to me... lol. if its not that, have u tried push-starting the car? taking a hammer to the starter has worked for some ppl too. no clue on the alternator bolt, though.

ur bad oil leak/squeeky belts -> most likely front main seal. which is dripping oil on your belts, causing squealing when u start the car as it burns the oil off. u need to replace your front main seal. it's time consuming, but simple. the seal itself is like 5 bucks from the dealer.

clanging noise, when you turn? do a search. t/c rods or something. its a common problem with a not so hard fix.

grinding in reverse... well be more specific on the sound. reverse gear sounds different then ur normal gears. worst comes to worst... buy a used ka24de tranny and swap the old one out. cost for tranny ~ 200 bucks. DIY labor = free.

air works on four only -> burned out air flow controller resistor board thingy. get one from the dealer, under your glove compartment towards the front of the car. ull see it... take out two screws and it drops out. unplug the old one and plug in the new one, put it back in the way you took it out. voila all fixed. search for the name and part #... i forgot. 5 minutes job, assuming u can handle a screw driver ;).

tint... retint it... i guess.

lights don't come on... bulbs burned out or wires loose/corroded. pull of ur dash (takes 2 min) and get to work.

lighter thingy... take a look at the wire when u pull off the dash for the above. its not a complicated device. most likely a wire is loose somewhere.

edit : actually you don't need to pull the whole dash off... just the center console.

dents? um pull em i guess.

best advice... get a factory service manual and get to work. there's nothing on the car that you can't fix with the right tools and enough knowledge. i persoanlly don't trust automechanics anymore. unles u have a personal relationship with one, u pay em alot to do a shitty half ass job on your car.

the problem is your starter. i had the same thing happen to me before. you have 2 options. buy a new one, or replace the brushes in your starter. buying a new one usually comes with a good warranty. replacing brushes will work, but its good to start with a new/rebuilt one.

as for the bolt on the alternator, use threadlock(locktite) use blue or green, DONT use red.

im gonna hafta to go with starter as well. make sure the terminals are secure first though on the batt before you go spending money.
