Power steering is fine, seems to me it has something to do with the timing belt. Could be the alternator. I have a 93 coupe. Sound only starts up after 3 rpms no matter what gear I'm in.

Alright, much appreciated. I'll check tomorrow & give an update. Car runs strong cept for that crazy whining sound. Also just recently installed an aem short ram intake. Light smoke coming from the engine. Should I be worried?

smoke from the engine? like from the tailpipe or the engine itself? did you spray anything like wd40 while you were installing the intake?

yes. you should be worried.

go consult a skilled mechanic. :squint:

Sound at or around 3k rpms usually points towards one thing......rod bearings. Start it up and pull each plug wire off one at a time. If the sound goes away at any point, that's the cylinder that is down/going down. Also, compression test will let u know.

Ugh. Stop worrying about shit like the maf when you most likely have a bad engine. This is like worrying over a splinter when your arm is chopped off.

You said you just installed this engine? Where did you get it from? Did you compression and leakdown test it before you bought it? Or see it run?

Start with the basics.

Compression test

Leakdown test.

This has been said many MANY times before. Search around! The internet is a vast expanse of information! Some good some bullshit. There was no reason to create a new thread over this at all. Small questions thread. Or search the site, or google.

turns out there was just an unattached cable to the maf, airflow is getting through and engine runs good now. still can't figure out that whining sound... timing chain most likely looks like, sigh.

Seriously, you should not be working on cars and please consult with a skilled mechanic. I'm not even gonna explain what happened, but considering you're 20 years old and this is your only car, you only gonna make it blow even worst.
