I purchased a 92 r32 gtst, rb20det.
When picking up the car I noticed a rough idle, backfire. Seemed to be running a tad rich. Mods the vehicle currently has.
Hks bov, full 3' exh, fmic kit., Walbro 255, rb25 maf with stock ecu.. Could be a problem there. 11lbs of boost.

Anyways, I removed the coil pack cover. While the motor was running* I pulled coil pack plugs individually, with only 2* making no difference when unplugged. Just to make sure, I took a good coil pack and switched it out, still when unplugged it made no difference. And it was a coil that was working lol. So I said to myself it's the harness... I put a locals harness on, it turned over but would fall on its face like it was out of time.. Weird. I put all of MY stock parts back on and All of a sudden.. It wants to run fine lol..... So I'm all pumped and wanna take it out immediately to test her out. Seemed fine until I opened it up, around 4-5500 it would act like fuel cut. I let out of it quickly and it would misfire again. Wtf. So I push in the clutch and give it a rev, and it's fine again... Until I got on it again. I'm stuck and don't understand this problem. I forgot to mention the car has a brand new wiring specialties coil pack harness now. Still rough.. And brand new NGK's gapped at .30

Check for loose pins. Also check fuel injector side of #2 make sure it has a constant voltage

Coil pack harness is fresh now. I'm thinking I should check all injectors though..

I would try the injector test as said before. Also check the ground wires and adding a few more never hurts. I had trouble before with grounding at my coils. Also try swapping in a rb20 maf and change ur plugs to the recommended ones I don't remember the part # off hand but u can find it on here. If ur close to Scranton pa I have one u can try and if it solves ur problem I will trade u I need a rb25 maf lol and have a rb20 one

close the gap on the plugs and see if that helps with the missfire.

here might be one of the possible cause...

test/check injector - if injector OK then check injector circuit might be open or shorted?

check ignition spark and spark plug - if ignition OK then check ignition circuit might be open or shorted?

check compression pressure

check fuel pressure - if only one cylinder misfires skip this step

intake air leak - check for loose hose and pipe clamps

check MAF - check voltage idle and 2500 rpm between ECU terminal (easier if you have another spare MAF to test)

check ground

good luck!

F*ucking lose injector plug... Cleaned out an sounded a lot better. Still had a misfire. Confirmed 2* coil packs are bad. Thank you everyone for the help!

I just found factory with super low miles. Guy says there mint and he's hooking me up. Now I need injector seals.. Noticed the smell of gas and one leaking tonight due to me playing with the injectors lol
